Inter-Island Travel, airline recs please!

Hi Girls,

A co-worker of mine is off to Hawaii in January for the first time, so excited for her!  She'll fly to Oahu and then will fly over to Maui and spend a week there before coming back to Vancouver.  Which inter-island airline should I recommend to her? Any one in particular?  I have been making suggestions and helping her quite a bit with her trip so far Smile  If you have any Maui hotel suggestions that would be great too, I'm good with Oahu but I'm not 100% sure on Maui.  TIA! Paradise

Re: Inter-Island Travel, airline recs please!

  • We used Island Air last time and they were pretty good.

We really like the Westin properties on Maui.  They are on the West Side at Kaanapali.  We've also stayed at the Whaler and Kaanapali Alii before.  Both of those are condos.  The Alii is amazing.  The condo was HUGE.  If it's jsut 2 people, even the 1 bedroom may be a little bit too big.  The Whaler was nice too.  Their 1 bedrooms are a little bit smaller than the Alii but still very spacious.

  • i know go and mokulele just merged so not sure who's left...not many choices left.  go and hawaiian, i think. use kayak to find the best times, prices are about the same.

  • I dislike go airlines, but they are usually the cheapest.  You have three options, go, Hawaiian and Island Air.  If I had to choose I would pick Hawaiian, but they are usually the most expensive.
  • Hawaiian, GO and Island Air are the only small ones. I do think that some major airlines are flying between the islands now, so they may have island hopping tickets..not sure though.
  • We just fly whichever company is least expensive.  The flights are so short that we can deal with whatever :)
  • Thanks ladies! :)

  • Your friend will be there for whale watching season!  We stayed in the Kaanapali/Kahana area and found an awesome deal for a unit at the Kahana Beach Resort on Expedia for about $100 a night.  We could see whales from our room!  We're thinking about trying to squeeze another trip in this winter season to see the whales and we'll probably end up staying there again if it's available.
