Sunday traffic (Lake George/northway/Albany)

DH wants to take DD back to Great Escape on Sunday (for their holiday in the park thing).  I'm curious though if the traffic is going to be a nightmare coming back?  What do you think?  And what time do you think it would build up?  Do you think the exit for Crossgates would be all backed up too?

He'll prob go no matter what but I'm thinking there will be a lot of traffic, from all the times I've gone up to VT on weekends/holidays, when we come back Sundays there is a TON of traffic.

Re: Sunday traffic (Lake George/northway/Albany)

  • I am at exit 14 and I have never noticed any heavy traffic on Sundays.  Even with the holiday, it is usually busier earlier in the morning and afternoon.  By evening it should be clear.
  • Yes there will be a lot of traffic.

  • Does it matter if your DH and DD get into traffic if they have a good time at Great Escape?  Isn't that the important part?
  • Last time they went they skipped DD's nap and she got pretty hysterical.  So it makes sense to get home fast, and at least if the car is moving it helps her to sleep.. if not she might just scream for hours (literally - b.c that is what happened when she got home last time).
  • Depending on the time of day, it probably won't be too bad until you get closer to the Thruway. I remember coming back from OOT on Columbus Day weekend at around 4pm, and the traffic to get onto Exit 24/I-90 was backed up to exit 4. If there's a way you can get off sooner to get home (like at one of the Latham exits), I'd do that.

I agree with this.  They do have signs now, though, along the way, telling you how the traffic is doing and how long it'll take you to get to the Thruway, so he can always judge what route he takes home based on thosee as well.  The good thing is the exits down closer to the Thruway are pretty close together, so if things looked backed up earlier than he was expecting, he can always get off a different exit and just go a back way home.

    Hope they have fun!
