Mommies: travel with LO

Have you ever traveled with your LO and stayed in a hotel?  How old was he/she?  We're thinking about going to the parents for Christmas but would have to stay at a hotel, and we're not sure how that would go over if he's crying all night.  Advice?

Re: Mommies: travel with LO

  • i think youll be fine.  they have cribs at hotels, so one less thing to bring...but bring a sheet.

Some crib hotels are not up to safety standards...if you don't want to risk it I recommend getting a travel bed for infants or having older babies sleep with you.

  • Yep. All the time.  I think the first time traveling with Kai he was 1 month and we stayed in our vacation rental in Tahoe. He was fine.  We have done hotels/condos many times by now. Actually I think it is worse now than when he was a baby.  Being in a different environment is harder on him now. He likes his own bed (actually our bed).

I dont think you will have a problem, but I do HIGHLY suggest taking Lysol wipes and spray and wiping down everything (tv remotes, door handles, etc) simply because you will be touching the baby.  I do this still.  When DC gets older I always rec'd outlet covers and clothes pins to help keep the blinds closed and hang things.  Oh and I HIGHLY HIGHLY rec'd a sound machine. We travel with it everywhere and can never do without it. It blocks our noisy neighbors, traffic, TV, anything esp because hotel walls are sooo thin. I would even take it now even if DS wasnt with me.  Our cost $25 and is priceless.

Also depending on if you are a co-sleeper- we are, we get a king bed and a roll away. DH gets the roll away. lol  And Embassy suites or anythign with the name Suites will usually give you more room.  Oh and they usually have microwaves and refrig's which is highly needed for us.

So true Lori (re safety standards)!  This is a great idea/product, although Kai never liked his. You have to tell me how this works out for you when DD arrives. Its a great price too!

  • great idea - my grandmother just got me this!  I will have to bring it.

Thanks for the wipes idea too - I would not have thought of that!

  • We started traveling w/Sean Patrick when he was 2.5 months and he didn't have any problems sleeping in the hotel.  If you don't get a suite (we didn't the first time), then I highly suggest you get a pack n' play with a mobile...we put a beach towel around the mobile part so it blocked out the light from the TV :)

We take our pack n play everywhere, it's been great.  I don't trust the cleanliness of hotel cribs.  Now that SP is 13 months and doesn't need the hard surface that comes with the pack n play, DH bougth an egg-crate mattress cushion and cut it to size to make it more comfy for SP.  We're in a hotel right now and he's napping as I type this :)

    Good luck!
