What's Everyone Doing for Thanksgiving?

I looooooove Thanksgiving!  I am sick, which sucks, but I am determined to get well by tomorrow.

In the morning I'm doing the Run to Feed the Hungry (which is a WALK for me), then coming home to prep my 23 pound turkey.  Todd gets home from NYC sometime in the afternoon - traffic permiting - and we'll have 8 others over for dinner with everyone bringing something.  It'll be very casual, I've told everyone to wear their comfies, and we'll just eat, drink, and play games.  I'm so looking forward to it!

What is everyone else doing?  Do any of our non-USA Nesties celebrate?

Re: What's Everyone Doing for Thanksgiving?

  • Sorry that you are sick, hopefully it's be a little better by tomorrow - your day sounds very fun!

We're visiting my folks in Illinois for turkey day, we arrived yesterday and head back to Cali on Friday afternoon.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

  • It's just Jon and me this year, so it'll be small.  I still wanted to cook the traditional stuff, so I'll be brining a turkey breast overnight, then popping it into the slow cooker in the morning.  I'll also do stuffing, potatoes and rolls from scratch.

I'm so excited, I love Thanksgiving!!

  • I'm working...why do I always choose jobs/careers where holidays do not exist?  At least I get time and a half for 5 hours.  Woohoo.

But we're having dinner at B's aunt's house tonight, so we'll have a real Thanksgiving dinner then.

  • My ILs arrived yesterday, and I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner for them and my sister.  I started brining the 20-pound turkey last night, and made the pumpkin cheesecake yesterday.  Currently baking the apple pie and my MIL made her famous jell-o mold today, too.

We went shopping this morning, but I'm so tired right now, so I'm supposed to be taking a nap right now, while they're all looking at photos on the computer.  I'm not sleepy, but just need to rest a bit, so I thought I'd sit in bed and Nest instead!

  • Oh, yeah, and we're also telling our families that we're KU during Thanksgiving dinner....I can't wait!  Both our families will be happy, as there have been many hints. from them.

  • Hope you feel better by tomorrow, Amy!

I'm visiting DH and the IL's are flying in from MN.  Since they're Australian, T-day has always been something they only do b/c "everyone else does it", and they get the time off.  We're having a very un-traditional T-day dinner:

Salmon, roasted sweet potatoes (maybe beets too), mushroom quinoa pilaf, potato casserole, and some kind of steamed green (broccoli?).  I'm also going to try and make a sun-dried tomato jam and olive tapenade for appetizers.

Hopefully the weather will be OK so we're not stuck indoors all weekend!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

  • feel better amy!  certainly the thanksgiving food should help.  we are celebrating with our venice ohana-our friends host at their house and we all bring food. i have been cooking up a storm-made the cranberry sauce, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin pie ( i should add that i also roasted and pureed pumpkins myself since i refuse to use canned foods) chocolate bourbon pecan pie, chestnut fennel stuffing, sweet potato souffle and maple roasted brussel sprouts with chestnuts-my friend always make the turkey sure she is making more as well.  did a 4.5 mile run today in anticipation of the FOOD.  Wishing everyone a very happy and healthy thanksgiving!
  • Sounds like you are going to have a great time. I like to keep things casual too. We'll be going to my parent's house for lunch and then we have to make an appearance at my SIL's later in the day. I am getting over my second cold in two weeks...so much for being a germaphobe! Unfortunately my baby has a cold now too. I hope you are feeling better tomorrow. Enjoy your turkey day!
  • We are going to a friend's home.  IAll the guests are contributing something. I 'm making the roast beef; I bought a pumpkin cheesecake and an apple pie from Costco.

On Friday, I'll make Kalua turkey breast in the crock pot.  DH bought pumpkin haupia pie from Ted's Bakery. So we'll have our T-giving at home on Friday. Yum!

  • I have done it in the past, but not this year. First because we just moved, and second because turkeys are like $65 here (no really, they are) and between houses and babies, I'm broke. Sad
  • Moving.  We picked up the keys to our new condo and tomorrow is the only day we both have off  before the movers show up on Tuesday.
  • We're just relaxing at home, just the two of us. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  • HAPPY THANKSGIVING LADIES!  My hubby and I celebrated with steaks instead of turkey.  Between last week and this coming week, I have 5 holiday parties (all work related) to attend so I am turkeyed out.  Plus German ovens are WAY smaller than normal American ones so I am not about to attempt cooking a turkey this year.

Hope all your days were wonderful.

  • Family, friends, food, football!  FABOOSH!
