Garland, TX

My husband just applied for a job in Garland. Can anyone tell me about the area? We have a 4 year old and an infant, is it family friendly? How are the schools?

 Thanks.

Re: Garland, TX

  • Garland is really big and changes alot from one half of the town to the other. Do you know where in Garland?
  • If he gets the job, you may want to look in the Rockwall or Heath area, it seems to be nicer and the schools are better.

  • I live in N. Garland near Firewheel and I love the area. Like a pp said it depends on the area you are looking in.

  • The Firewheel mall area is the only place I'd move back to if I moved back to Garland.  But only on that side of the George Bush Turnpike, lol.  Across the other way there are some not so nice areas.  I used to live in a house where Firewheel mall now stands.  Rockwall, Heath, Sachse seem to be better areas to live in.
  • North Garland is good... Above Walnut St... or Rowlett. Firewheel mall areas areas are pretty good. Schools are pretty good, I graduated from Garland High School in 2007.

  • One good thing about Garland is that there is freedom of choice in the school district, so if you find a house in one part of the city but want a different school, you can do that.  There are some magnet schools and academies.
