Oh, and I need Christmas tree advice..
I've decided I want a real Christmas tree after all.. I haven't had one since I lived at my parents house and they always took care of the tree. So, what kind of things do I need to know about having a real tree? I know I need to keep it watered but I'm sure there are other things, aren't there?
Re: Oh, and I need Christmas tree advice..
I love having a real tree. I did it for the first year ever last year and I plan to do it again. The one big thing I noticed (aside from watering it every day) was that the needles get everywhere so a tree skirt is essential!
Also if you have a cat, make sure the water is covered well or the cat will try to drink it. Mine does! She even figured out how to get under the tree skirt so we have to tape it to the carpet!
Enjoy the smell!
My parents always watered ours with room temp "sugar water". I have no idea why, but I've continued doing it with my own trees for the past 3 years. Fill a pitcher or watering can and add about a half cup of sugar, stir it up, and water your tree. I think it helps the needles stay put or something.
Definitely measure your tree stand & the trunk of the tree before bringing it home! We had that disaster last year...
Hope that helps! Good luck!
Ooo, I like the trash bag advice.
Other than keeping it watered, there really isn't anything else you have to do. We usually have to water ours twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. I've heard that adding a can of Sprite to the water makes the tree last longer (the sugar helps I guess), but I've never tried it. The tree seems fine with just plain old water.
