We got a puppy!

I never wanted a dog and still don't really want one, but some how today we end up with not only a christmas tree but a pit bull puppy. FI really wanted one and a friend couldnt keep him. His  name is Duke and he is 7 weeks old. Thank goodness he is cute or he wouldnt be staying here.

  • OOOOOOOhhhh!!!!! Wook at the puppy!!!!!

Adorable!  How's the puppy getting along with the Christmas ornaments? ;)

  • That's my pup...not the OP.  He barks and is scared of our tree.  Not as tough as they are thought to be!!

  • Good luck and don't feel overwhelmed. At such a young age, they will get into a lot and will prob chew up a lot of stuff. Get plenty of toys and remember not to get angry at them for the things they do. They are just learning and it's your job to show them the way! I know you said you really didn't want one, so make sure you realize that this will be a lifetime commitment for the dog and be ready and willing to work with them on everything! Hopefully, you will grow more and more attached as time goes on and they will feel more like a family member.

When I got my rescue dog, I was really frustrated at him at first because he wasn't following my rules (because he had never had rules before). Jumping all over my furniture, chewing up things, playing too rough with my dog who is paralyzed, trying to play bite my hands, I remember coming home and just crying!! But, I was able to stay strong and work with him and now he is the PERFECT gentleman! Good luck with your new puppy, I am sure you are a proud mama! :)

  • Yay, puppy!  Foto had some wonderful words of wisdom - patience and understanding are the key to raising puppies.  We have a rescue and I assure you, it was beyond tough at first.  He chewed, was not housebroken and all around was a bit of a menace Smile But after lots of work and even more love, he is a wonderful little guy.  Good luck, and have fun - you'll love him more every day.
  • Congrats!! I'm not a big dog person either, but the first dog I ever loved was a pit bull. Our old roommate had one and she is still my favorite dog ever. Sweetest dog you've ever met. Good luck & post pics!! :)
  • Congrats!! Pit bulls are sweet dogs...SIL has a pit bull that she rescued and that dog is the biggest baby, she's so sweet!!
