Happy Monday I'm out of the house but already want to run someone's head threw the wall.
DH has had the flu since Thursday night, well came down with all the symptoms. I can not remember ever having the flu and DH has never had the flu or been sick since we have been together. I have no idea what to look for etc.
He has had a fever since Thursday night from 100-102.something. Never up to 103 that we know of. DH does not have a doctor but I do. They were NO HELP this morning. I told them that I am a patient and DH isn't but has had a fever for 5 days and they said they had no new openings for new patients until after the new year. I get that they are busy etc but I AM A PATIENT and it's not like he is someone walking off the street. Can't they do something for patients spouses....like take them as a patient if needed before a month out?
So I called DH and said we should prob just go to an urgent care just in case blah blah blah and he's all like "I'll see how I am tomorrow". So friggin frustrating after taking care of his arse for 5 days AND I'm still having surgery on Thursday and have been really careful to NOT get sick because they will cancel and NOW he won't even go to urgent care. I slept wrong and have a horrible tension headache, editing at work at a job that may not work out in the long run and I just want to curl up and cry.
Should I push DH to go to urgent care even if he puts up a fight? I have no experience with the flu and really don't want to get it. Blech.
Re: Blech...Husband with flu - advice/vent
Like Beth said, they may not be able to do anything - have to let it run its course. You can call them and check, just in case - or even stop in since it isn't far from your house. Definitely keep your distance. Dr.'s office won't do anything unless you are a patient - doesn't matter that your spouse is. Went through the same thing at our dr office before B became a patient there.
What are you having surgery for??
Sorry he's not feeling well. I know the whole no new patient battle. When I was very ill with lyme disease no one would see me here in VA. I had to go to Johns Hopkins (which was a blessing in disguise) but I digress. It just sucks.
Urgent care will probably just say rest and fluids unless he's high risk like Beth mentioned...so I think I'd wait at least until Thursday unless things get dramatically worse. GL
Thanks for all the advice. I was not sure if I should push or not and I'll just keep things the way they are.
Jen.....having my LAP on thursday.
I'm so sorry your husband is not feeling well. He sounds like mine, never wants to go to the doctor until he is so sick he is almost passing out! I say that if the fever persists for a week, he should probably be seen by a doctor, especially if his other symptoms are also sticking around. He may need some kind of meds. I hope he feels better soon and I hope that your surgery goes well!
Everyone gave you good advice- and I dont think Urg Care would do much for him- give him fluids and above all- wash your hands each time you give hima cup or touch him..since I didnt get the flu shot- my doc said handwashing is the single most important thing to do- to avoid the flu...
Hope he feels better soon!!
