Suggestions for good reads..

So I'm a sucker for a good book but lately I haven't been able to sink myself into anything because of school. However, after finals next week I'm going to have a good little break in between semesters and really wanted to treat myself to a good book. Wanted to know if there were any good suggestions of what to get since you ladies have some sort of book club or something on here going on...thanks!

Re: Suggestions for good reads..

  • What do you like to read?

The last 2 books I've read for pleasure have been serious tear jerkers.  Like, just go buy your box of tissues now.  But both were excellent and I highly recommend them. They are "The Time Travelers Wife" and "Firefly Lane".

Some good chic lit authors are Emily Giffin, Sophie Kinsella and Jane Green (read Jemima J, you will laugh for days).  For a tad bit heavier reading I'm a fan of David Baldacci, James Patterson and John Grisham.

I'm sure there are others but that's all my fried brain can remember right now.

  • I just finished Left to Tell: Discovering God Admits the Rwandan Holocaust by Immaculee Ilibagiza and it was an incredible book. I still can't leave a review for it on Goodreads that would do it justice.

Right now in book club we are reading The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry which is very good so far.

We have also read The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff which was great. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenger and The Shack by William P. Young.

Some of my favorites that I have read this year have been

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (first book is Outlander)

The Jessica Darling Series (Sloppy Firsts is the first book) by Megan McCafferty,

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

I Know why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen

The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly

Along for the Ride, The Truth about Forever, Lock and Key and Dreamland by Sarah Dessen.

You can click on the Goodreads link in my siggy to see the other books I have read if you want more suggestions or books on my TBR list.

You are also more than welcome to join us for book club!

  • So ditto all this!  I am currently reading the Outlander series, on Dragonfly in Amber and it's great stuff!

And I loved the Jessica Darling series!

Bust out the tissues for this one too. I love all of Mitch Albom's books.
