Christmas Presents

My in-laws declared a "No Presents" Christmas this year for the whole family. They are throwing a cocktail party in place of gifts. I am so excited for this.  I find the whole present thing for adults to be pretty stressful.  Now the stress is gone!

Re: Christmas Presents

  • We started that a few years ago and I love it.  It makes the holidays so much less stressful.  DH's family does a secret santa, which is fun! Enjoy your cocktail party!

  • Oh that sounds like a great idea!

  • That's such a great idea! I wish my IL's would do that-my FIL is seriously the hardest person in the world to buy for.
  • I wish my mother would understand this concept...

She has asked both DH and myself what we want for xmas, and we've both told her not to worry about it, especially after all they did for the wedding... she won't listen, and has actually gotten mad at me because I don't have any decent ideas for her.... so sorry Mom, we'd rather just spend time with our family than receive gifts?

  • That sounds wonderful.
  • That's a great idea! I hate buying gifts for adults too but I can't seem to get everyone on board with a no gifts idea.
  • That's fun.  I started making a big pre-Christmas dinner for my dad and his wife (and my siblings) instead of giving gifts.  The cost of all the food is about what I would have spent and they are trying to downsize and get rid of stuff so it helps us all out.  With my extended family we've been doing pollyanna's and yankee swaps.  It makes the gift exchange a game, and the limit is like $15/person.

  • lol I would hate this! I love buying gifts for people. I always buy too much and have to save things for birthdays. Granted, DH's parents are a little tricky, but they're the only ones. Luckily, this year they get a wedding album.
  • that sounds like fun. we called no presents for the siblings so focus more on the kids but we still exchange presnts with M/FIL.
