POLL: how many people do you buy for?

us:

1.  MIL (she always tells us what she wants so this is easy)

2.  stepdaughter- she usually wants electronics

3.  MIL's boyfriend (always a movies gift certificate)

4.  something for harper this year!

that is all. my family does not exchange gifts anymore.  my husband and i do not buy for each other.  i think he may get himself a new watch and i may get a fresh car for the new baby. (no surprises!)

Re: POLL: how many people do you buy for?

  • 1. H and I buy little things for each other and set a pretty low $ limit.

    2. Sister

    3&4. Mom and dad

    5&6. MIL and SFIL

    7&8. FIL and SMIL

    9,10,11,12. Two aunts, Two uncles

    13,14,15,16,17,18,19. Seven cousins

20,21,22. Two older cousins and the one's husband

23,24,25. Two grandmom's and my grandpop

So 25 people total, which doesn't include H's side of the family.  They just stopped doing presents this year.  25 is seriously insane...no wonder I'm hating Christmas this year.

  • 1. H and I buy for each other

    2. Sister

    3&4. Mom and dad

    5&6. MIL and SFIL

    7. FIL

    8. Brother

    9.&10.&11. BIL, SIL and niece

    12. H's step-sister

    13. H's grandmother

    14. One bff

15, 16, 17, 18. Small presents for my cousins' kids

  • It's all about the kids this year, so all we're doing are:

    1, 2 & 3 - daughters & stepson

    4 - my nephew

    5 - H's niece

  • I just counted: 26.

I think it's insane to buy for aunts and uncles, but H's family does it so I reluctantly oblige. I'm doing some homemade gifts, though, because I think it's silly to spend $50+ on an aunt, etc.

  • My mom, my dad, my 2 brothers & girlfriends (usually $50 gc to a resturaunt), my brother's GF's 5 y/o son, my cousin's 4 y/o daughter, my grandmother, other grandmother, grandfather, both of the girls god parents and Isabella's teachers, crossing guard andbus aides.

On DH's side we buy for his parents, 2 grandmothers and his cousin's kids (6 in all).

Then we have both girls and each other.

It's out of control and I hate it... but I have no idea how to make it stop!!! I wish someone would just say ENOUGH -- no more gifts!

I tried that and got labeled as a 'grumpy grinch'.

  • This year

    1,2- mom and dad

    3,4- MIL, FIL

    5-niece

    6- dog:)

We've been cutting back most years anyway b/c we end up exchanging gift cards, my brother, sister and I just go out on a group dinner together and I could never buy for all my aunts and cousins and would have a gift list of 55!!

  • 1 & 2 - Mom and Dad

    3 & 4 - FIL and MIL

    5 - My Sister

    6 - Nephew

7 - My 6 year old (1st) cousin...my Aunt had kids much later in life than my mom

8 - This year we bought living room furniture as our gift to eachother, but normally we exchange.

    9 - DH's aunt/Godmother

And I agree with PP - it gets really out of hand sometimes...but luckily my family is small, and DH's is so big that they only exchange within each nuclear family unit.

  • 1. - The H (The only person who is really fun to buy for)

    2&3 - Mom and Dad

    4&5 - MIL and SFIL

    6&7 - FIL and SMIL

    8,9,10 - H's sisters

11,12 - My sisters - but we all agreed awhile ago to make each other something every year.  So I only shop for supplies.

    13 - Aunt Niecy

    14 - Pop

    15 - Oscar (dog)

    16,17 - Neice and nephew

    18 - God kid

19,20,21 - Something small for H's step siblings

    22 - H's grandmom

    23 - H's uncle

This year however we are giving home made goodie baskets to all.  My family is super excited for them.

  • We shop for around 24 people I counted.

The only thing I HATE is DH's parents search what you bought them and gauge how much you spent on it, they are materialistic as anything and are offended if you spend $50 or less on them. It's not like we shop at the dollarstore for them, but they never seem to be happy with any gift.
