Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Question on vendor reviews

I thought we could post good or bad reviews on vendors, with the chance for them to e mail the knot to rebuttle the negative review. I was reading the knot community rules and it states this:

Please keep in mind that The Knot Message Boards are not to be used for posting complaints and defamatory comments about vendors. All defamatory posts are subject to removal at The Knot's sole discretion. We are concerned that you be treated fairly and that other brides are warned of any bad apples in this business. You have the option of contacting the vendor directly, or if an official complaint is appropriate, you may contact the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org.

 What is the actual rule?

Re: Question on vendor reviews

  • You do still have the option to delete it especially if it is vulgar or gets into character assassination.

If you keep reading, the very next paragraph after the one you copied and pasted says this:

While we don't allow vendors to post on our message boards, if you are a wedding professional with a question about a post regarding your business; we may, in our sole discretion, post a statement submitted by you, on your behalf. Please email messageboards@theknot.com for more information.

  • I read that part, and that is where I got confused. Thanks.
  • Yeah, so basically vendor reviews are allowed unless they are just really bad or vulgar or character assassination or whatever.  Then if the vendor happens to see it and wants to post a response, they can e-mail the address there and give their response and Annie can post it.

  • I think the first sentence in what you C&P'd is confusing with the new rule (and probably hasn't been updated since vendors can reply and negative reviews are allowed).  Complaining is different than making defamatory comments.  Anything factual is allowed, but once it gets to be insulting or character assassinating, it is subject to deletion.  Stick to the facts, don't hurl insults, and it's fine.

I think what you C&P'd should be edited by TK for clarity - it is confusing with the new rule.

That's what I thought. The two don't seem to mesh. I'm sure they have bigger fish to fry now, but something to look at when things calm down.

  • I think it's because the first part you c&p'd was the original rule and when it got changed to the vendor being able to e-mail a response, Annie just tacked it on without really re-wording the whole thing.  To me, I think it's still clear and if anyone has a question, you can just explain it.  The key is that we still have the discretion to delete it if we think it warrants a delete.
