Update on MIL

Oh man, i'm exhausted. Physically and emotionally.

We first saw MIL on Thurs, after we ate Thanksgiving lunch. The doc had called FIL that morning saying that they had to do a *2nd* surgery to get more stuff out of her lung sac and check on some bleeding that she was doing. That makes 2 surgeries in 2 days!! So we were a bit on edge after hearing that news. And i wish someone had given me a warning about how she'd look when we walked in her room. It took everything i had to not start crying right then and there. But that wouldn't have been helpful. She just had so many tubes and iv's and she was asleep and pale and sunken looking. Ugh. So then we *really* felt on edge! But when we went back later that night, she was starting to try to open her eyes and wiggling her hands and toes so i felt a lot better!!

When we go to see her on Friday, she's awake!! But she's still intubated so she can't talk. And her wrists are strapped down so she doesn't semi-conciously tug at/rip out any of her wires or tubes. But she's able to nod yes and no and gestures that she wants to write, so DH helps her. It's an ordeal but she finally gets out that she wants a Coke! But she can't have one till she's off the respirator. She asks 'when' and after hearing another day or two she slowly writes S...H...I...T. Big Smile She also writes 'this is terrible' and i almost lose it! She's still in an out of it, but we can all feel the stress and tension about the situation lifting. DH was trying to get the nurse to say a particular goal for when she can be off the respirator so his mom had something to work for...

And when we go see her on Saturday morning she's off the respirator and *talking*! Woo hoo!! Such fast improvement!! She's still shaky and on a nasal canula getting oxygen and will be for a while. They moved her out of ICU and she's in a normal room with a roommate now.

I slept *terribly* that Thanksgiving night though! And i didn't sleep much better the rest of the time. But i'm sooooo thankful that she's okay and awake and talking and getting better!! Party!!!
