Help! How to change name

I am so confused.

We live in Clermont County. Do I go to the SS office in Clermont County or Hamilton County? Can I take paperwork with me to make the process faster?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help! How to change name

  • I am pretty sure you can go to any SS office, but to be safe I would go to the county where you LIVE.  I think you can fill out the application before you go.  I took my marriage license with me and my birth certificate and my previous SS card and my drivers license.  I remember it being easier than I thought it would be.

  • You can go to any office. I changed mine while still in Colorado in a different county than I lived and sent it to my new Ohio address! It was easier than I thought as well but I did bring my marriage license, drivers license, old ss card and my birth certificate just in case..although I don't think I needed anything but the licenses
  • Take a book to read. The lines can get long. I was lucky and only wait about 15 minutes.

I just took my marriage license and driver's license. I also had my form filled out already.

  • Hi! I just did this two weeks ago!

I live in Warren County, but I went to the SS office in Hamilton.  Make sure you have your Certified Marriage Record and Drivers License.  I filled out the paperwork online early and took it with me.  The whole process to actually change your name takes about 5 minutes, but I had to wait 45 minutes at lunch to be taken.  Just take a good book with you!

    Good Luck!
