Photo Copyrights - HELP

We had our family pictures taken for the holidays (an annual thing).  We're VERY fortunate in that we became good friends with the man who photographed our wedding and he takes our pictures most years (he owns his own photography business and we just go to his studio.)

He burns the pictures onto a CD for us and we usually take it to Walmart to get the cards made with a written release stating he gives us permission to the copyrights, etc.

I dislike the cards at Walmart this year; Walgreens has some better ones, but I'd like to consider Snapfish.  My concern is that an online place (with a wider variety of cards to choose from) will present much more of a challenge when they go to print them and think it's a professional photograph (which it is)... I can't just walk in and hand them the release.

Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Photo Copyrights - HELP

  • I use shutterfly.  I uploaded my wedding pics to shutterfly and have ordered TONS of copies (and made cards and picture books and everything with them).

I've never had a problem.  If they have a problem with it, they will probably email you and you will just have to email them a copy of the release.

  • We got rights to our wedding photos and I ordered over 200 of the pro. pics from snapfish with no problems at all. I think you should be fine!
  • I don't think you'll have a problem.  Walmart and Walgreens are the worst when it comes to copyrights.  I have heard stories of some photographers having trouble printing their own pictures there.  They wanted a signed release and wouldn't believe it when they said that they are the photographer.

  • SWEET - I was worried because WALMART (of all places - WALMART?!?) freaks out and will either not print your order OR will rip your photos up right in front of you. Confused
  • I've used Kodak Gallery and Shutterfly for wedding pictures and haven't had any issues with needing the copyright release.

I believe Walmart is the worst when it comes to that.
