Hosting my First Christmas ...eek!

Hey Ladies, so I am getting quite nervous. I am hosting my first Christmas in my first house! Plus on top of that my husband-to-be and I's families are going to be meeting for the first time. His mom and brother fly down Christmas Eve morning and then fly back home on the 28th. I am having my family over Christmas Day. I am little nervous just about what might be expected of me.

Basically I am seeking out any tips or advice you' all might have for me.

*** Oh and were trying not to spend too much money since we have the wedding and honeymoon coming up ***

Re: Hosting my First Christmas ...eek!

  • Try to prepare what you can the days before, you can have the tables up and set a few days ahead, some dishes can be cooked ahead too and then reheated that day...?

    Good luck!

  • Oooh fun.

I always try to make sure I know ahead of time what everyone likes to drink so to have that on hand.

  • I agree with the PP... It's easy to get a lot done ahead of time... that way all you have to do the day off is the turkey and potatoes.

What I usually do is spiced carrots or squash, a brussles sprout salad or roasted brussles sprouts, dressing, mashed potatoes turkey and gravey.  The plum pudding or Mince Meat tarts for desert.  And some homemade frozen appies for starters.  I usually only have to worry about doing the turkey and potatoes the day of and heating everything else up.  It's make the day much more realxing.

  • Ditto Sarah on having as much prepared before hand as you can. Make your stuffing the night before so the morning of all you have to do is stuff the bird. Make your potatoes the day before. Peel all your veggies, make your desserts etc etc.
  • I agree with Jen and Sarah, prepare ahead of time.

  • christmas breakfastcan be done the night before.  Try making cinnamon buns or farmers breakfast the night before and then just reheat.  I was so glad I did that for my first christmas hosting.   Breakfast is usually the meal I don't eat so it's hard for me to remember to make it for others.  By making something I just had to fire into the oven on CHristmas morning was great.  Also get your baking done now while it's early and freeze it.

  • OH and this might be a no brainer but fresh towels and face clothes in the bedroom so they don't have to look for them in the morning.  I also like to go to wal-mart and get travel sizes of toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner and deoderant if I know someone will be staying for a couple of days.  You never know what people will forget and it only costs a couple of bucks.

  • Wow thanks everyone. I am going to doing my Christmas baking this weekend. We are going to sit down and make a menu plan while the company is here also.
