Housing Information!!!
Hi everyone...I write to you in need of assistance all the way from miami.
My husband is currently in his last year of med school and has the possibility of doing his residency in universtiy of massachusetts in worchester.
I know here in Miami, there are many different neighborhoods/towns to live in and I was wondering if you guys could help me with recommendable places to live near or around worchester (no more than a 20-25 min commute from the hospital)
We are in our late 20's and have a 5month old baby. I am looking for a nice quite, safe neighborhood that's not too expensive.
I really dont know much about the Boston area... so any help would be wonderful!!!

Hi and almost welcome to MA!
I went to school down the street from UMass Worcester and actually went to the campus to do my senior thesis.
Some parts of Worcester aren't the safest places. I never had a problem during my 4 years of school, but I made sure to take precausions after dark. But actually the northwest part of the city is pretty nice along Salisbury St. between WPI (where I went) and Assumption College. Very residential there and pretty homes. The school system isn't stellar though.
Further west: Shrewsbury, Northborough and Westborough are nice towns, but depending on your price range could be a little hard to get into depending on the size of the house you're looking for. But good school systems in all three towns.
Southeast I hear the Upton area is nice, but I don't know much about the towns south of Worcester. (I'm from Middlesex County further east).

I don't know much about the areas of Worcester (pronounced wuh-ster, in case you didn't know!) itself, but I grew up in Westborough, which is about 15-20 minutes east. It is a more expensive town, but worth looking at. As MrsC mentioned, Shrewsbury and Northborough are also right there (Shrewsbury being the closest to Worcester). Boylston and Clinton are on the less expensive side - they are to the north of Worcester. Hudson and Marlborough are also good towns. They may be a little farther, but are accessible by I-290 which may make the commute not so bad (though I'm not sure how traffic is on 290 during the morning/evening commutes).

I went to HS in Douglas, MA which is southeast of the city, just a little further than Upton. All those towns in that area are very very rural and nice. They may be a little more pricey however. But if you're looking for quiet towns with good school systems they're worth looking at. Upton, Northbridge/Whitinsville, and Millbury are all nice towns with good school systems and though they're rural they are still close to lots of shopping and 290 which can take you into Worcester and the Mass Pike (I-90) which takes you right into Boston.
