Mtg w/ CEO - maternity leave ?
I'm meeting with our agency CEO in an hour to discuss what will happen when I go on maternity leave. My EDD is exactly 2 weeks before the $100K+ fundraiser I'm in charge of. Not great timing.
I told my Executive Director I would like to get an intern so the department would have some extra help leading up to the event. So far that hasn't gone over well. So now I'm skipping over my boss and going directly to the CEO. I really don't want to leave my co-workers with the extra work load.
If you've been on maternity leave or have had someone in your dept go on maternity leave what happened? Did the company hire a temp? Intern? Someone else just pick up the slack? TIA!

Re: Mtg w/ CEO - maternity leave ?
I've never been on maternity leave, but have experience with co-workers doing so- both times I was in a small department (of 3).
One company we hired a temp, and that didn't go over too well. It just took too much time trying to explain things so it ended up just being easier to do it ourselves for the couple of months. That's what we did at my current company, and it worked out fine.
If your boss is against hiring an intern, is it because of $$? Any chance of getting an unpaid intern for a few hours a week?

It's an unpaid intern I'm asking for! So that's why I'm going to the CEO to find out why that isn't possible. I've had really great interns in the past and I'm confident we could find one that fits well in our department.
This is what my team did for me when I was out. Each person was responsible for a small section of what I normally take care of. There were some non critical projects that just waited. And of course, I kept up with email to an extent and was always available to answer questions via phone if anyone needed me.
