Can you give me an idea of tree prices? real, not fake...
And where you got yours as well (like big box store such as Home Depot, vs. nursery etc).
DH has never bought a real tree before - price doesnt bother me but I don't want him having sticker shock!
Re: tree prices
Last year we started going to a tree farm and will this year too. We spent $50 and cut our own.
In the past, we usually go to a place that the cost is a donation for something. So depending upon size, we would spend anywhere from $30 - $75.
This is exactly where we used to go when we lived on the park! We loved it there and were able to get a 12' tree for a great price. That is when we lived in the brownstone with enormous ceilings. I miss a tree that big.
I know last year we got ours at Home depot.. It was pretty reasonable.. I wanna say $35-40.. Two years before that we got it at a nursery, once we cut it ourselves and once we got a precut one. The precut one was the most.. I think it was close to $70.. The one we cut ourselves was like $50ish.
We're gonna cut one ourselves again this year.. So I'm planning on $50-$60. It seems like so much for something thats going to die in 3 weeks, doesn't it?

If you're getting a real tree this year, you're in luck! Prices are down. Because tree farms have to predict their crops so far in advance, when this crop of trees was planted the down economy was obviously never predicted. So farmers have more trees than they think they can sell.
Last year our tree from Home Depot was about $30 but when I was there this weekend it was priced at $22. We've also bought from roadside stands for about $25. I'm hoping to score something around that or less this year.
I think last year we ended up at Home Depot for between 30-40, but our tree was pretty small.
We just picked ours up for $56.
I got the DL on how the trees usually work. They start cutting in October and store until it's time to ship them. Depending on the relationship with the growers and how much the stores want to pay the first cut in October usually goes to big box stores who sell them for $20-$30 etc and the last cuts in November go to other places with bigger price tags.
