You should check to see if you have a yarn shop in your area, they usually offer classes. If you can't find classes you can get a lot of videos on YouTube that are really helpful. I taught a girlfriend of mine to crochet when she was here for a vist and we used YouTube a lot so that she could see different things. I also really like this site: http://www.crochet-mania.blogspot.com/, she has a lot of good information on there. I learned to crochet from my mom when I was in college (I had to learn a folk art for a class I was taking) and I'm so glad I did. She also tried to teach me to knit but I just didn't get it. I personally think crochet is easier. Good luck learning, its so much fun. If you do decide to try to learn from YouTube if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them for you.
