S/O Homemade treats, what tried and true recipes...
Re: S/O Homemade treats, what tried and true recipes...
Wow, I have to make the furikake version for my parents! They'd love it
I don't make the same treats every year but I have made peppermint bark (crushed up candy canes mixed with dark chocolate, with some bits sprinkled on top.
I also have made coconut orange macaroon-y things. Toast some unsweetened shredded coconut, toss with rind of 1 orange, mix into bowl of melted chocolate, and shape into little balls. Very yummy!
This year's treat is hot chocolate on a stick. SO good!
I try not to bake too much during the holidays! But growing up, our staples were always chocolate fudge, and white-chocolate-covered pretzels (which are still my favorite).
My sister Megan makes a big sheet of butter toffee and melts semi-sweet chocolate over the top, then breaks it up like brittle. That stuff is amazing.
I don't make many snacky-type treats...usually I just do one big thing, like a cake (I have a banana cake recipe that's to die for).
I have been known to whip out the odd batch of Rice Krispy Treats though (just the plain kind - no choc chips or anything, I like 'em classic) - I know they're not exactly a gourmet item, but I have a terrible weakness for them.
I just bought one of these after lunch! I've been trying ot cut down on stuff like this because I know I'll be pigging out over the holidays but it was calling my name. Rice Krispy Squares are so simple, but sooo good.
Oh, ladies... have I got a treat for you. Make these with Lucky Charms instead of Rice Krispies. I DIE. They are so freaking delicious (if you like LC's).
Whoa, I have not had LC for years! Maybe since grade 1?! Might have to give it a try...
