Who made the calzones/had the recipe?
I want to make calzones.. DH hates them so we figured when he makes pizza dough, he can make himself a personal pizza and I'll do a calzone.
Any recipes, suggestions, tips? I've never made one before... I assume the regular pizza dough works? Yumm...
Re: Who made the calzones/had the recipe?
I don't have a recipe, but I use store bought pizza dough and just roll it out in a ovalish shape and fill half with whatever... sauce, veggies, cheese, pepperoni. Fold it over, pinch to close and brush some olive oil on top (sometimes I sprinkle on some salt & pepper or italian seasoning too) Cut a few slits to allow the steam to escape. Then bake at 350 for about 30-45 min... depending on the size, until it's golden brown. I always have some extra sauce to dip too.
I haven't made one in forever, I think it might be on the menu next week!
Like pp said you can do just about anything in a calzone. My favorite was my father's ham and cheese. He would include sliced deli ham, ricotta, mozzarella, sauce and some Italian seasonings. I believe that was it.
Here is a Rachel Ray recipe that I like. Sometimes I will add sundried tomatoes or roasted red pepper to give it a little bit of a kick. I am sure that you can also include sauce inside if you want.
I make my own dough but have used store bought as well.
