Wii owners, please come in!

My ILs are getting us a Wii for Christmas; it will be a surprise for DH.  MIL thought we may go out and buy one on our own so she told me that's what they're getting for us.

My question is what comes with the Wii?  It comes with one game, right?  And what controls come with the Wii console?  I only looked @ Wal-mart to see what came with the Wii console but they are locked up in a cabinet at Wal-mart. So I can't really get a close look at the box.  I'm assuming this is the case at most retailers.  I'm asking because I want to get DH a game and/or controls that don't come with the console.  What would be good to get for him?  What did you have to buy in addition to the Wii console? TIA!

Re: Wii owners, please come in!

  • It come with 1 controller, and 1 knchuck(have no clue how to spell it sorry), and a mini game that let's you get used to the controller.

As far as what games to get, I reccommend Decca Sports, Beach Sports, Family Game Night, and Wii Resort(with this one need additional skins for your controller).

  • I think it really depends on what bundle your ILs buy. There are so many out there now with different games and controllers. The "normal" bundle (at least the one I got when it first came out) was with Wii sports. It also came with one controller and one nunchuck. We had to buy one more controller and nunchuck so we could both play. It also might be a good idea to get the wii motion plus as a lot of games are going to start requiring that. The remote charger is also a great thing to have so you don't have to keep going through batteries.

Some great games (not sure if you're asking for game ideas or not) are: Mario Cart (comes with a wheel, need to buy a separate wheel if you want more than one person playing), Mario Party, Super Mario Galaxy, Lego Indiana Jones/Star Wars/Batman, the New Super Mario Brothers. There are so many more great games! Hope that helps a little.

Have fun! I love our Wii!

  • DH and I have a Wii and we are now asking for a 2nd remote because we would like to play together and currently can't.  If your DH was a big fan of the old school Mario, the new Mario (it's in a red box) is suppose to be outstanding.  I had to go to a bunch of different stores, but finally found it as it was DH's #1 request!

  • All the PP's have great recommendations.  I would suggest if you are planning to get a second remote (which you'll need for both of you to play!) that you get Wii Play.  It gives you a set of mini games (like the Wii Sports the console comes with but ping pong, a duck hunt type game, pool and a few others) plus a remote for just $10 more than buying the remote alone.  And I agree with what you need depends on which bundle your ILs get since there are a few floating around right now and there will probably be a few more available before Christmas.

My DH was big into Super Smash Bros, so we had Smash Bros Brawl and he loved playing that (especially when his brother came over lol).  Most of our games were geared toward playing with other people so we had Mario Kart (so much fun), Mario Party, Boogie (a singing game), Mario soccer and a few other games I can't remember now.  If we still had our Wii I would get New Super Mario Bros (Toys R Us is having a sale thru Saturday where if you buy New Super Mario you get 50% off a second Wii game), Wii Sports Resort, Madden 10 for DH, and Hasbro Family Game Night.

  • You have to get mariokart!!! It comes with one steering wheel, so you'll need to get another (and another controller so you can have 2 controllers and play against each other). It is awesome! We play for hours!

And we just checked out Wii Resort and now I really want it!
