We have a really gross infestation in our apartment. I Googled it and apparently areas in the Midwest and Northeast are having ladybug issues now. Is anyone else seeing more than usual or having a similar problem??
And do not even THINK about saying "Ladybugs are good luck!" If I hear that one more time, I will personally transport them to that person's home. Thank you.

If you Google "asian beetle" this is what shows up first. Oh, how I hope this isn't what's infesting you!!
oh fuuckkk that ^
If I found that in my house I would be running and like 99% of bugs don't bother me one bit.
Oh gosh, if that was infesting us, I would be running for my life! No, the asian beetle I was talking about are the asian ladybugs. When you googled the beetle it was a few pictures to the right of it.
UMMMM OMG EW. No no no no. I Googled Asian beetle too and I found websites that talked about how they look like ladybugs.
anelms, do you mean "bad winter" as in super cold weather, or "bad winter" as in lots and lots of those things invading your house???? I'm concerned
We get box elder bugs and asian lady bugs (they look like a lady bug but they have an orange shell vs red one).
^^^ that Asian beetle is completely disgusting^^^
I would freak out if something like that infested my house. I can barely deal with the Asian beetle - ladybug things. We've had a few in our house but not bad but my MILs house is infested. There are always bunches of them. It grosses me out. I've never seen them before this year but evidently its a common problem but much worse this year than normal. I've also heard that this is a sign of a bad winter -- meaning lots of cold temps, snow and its going to last forever, not lots of bugs.

We had ladybugs too! I read that some farmers or someone brought in a species of ladybugs that are not native to the northeast to be used as a natural pesticide (they eat other bugs) and they've ended up spreading and taking over. I saw tons of them in Montreal too and a few of my friends on the east coast have infestations too.
To get rid of them, we closed every single crevice we could in the windows and AC (they were coming in through the air conditioner vent). We used tape and insulating stuff. We sprayed a ton of a non-toxic pesticide (e.g., peppermint oil and some other oils). You can also put a bunch of other things close to where they're coming in (I forgot what they are, but I googled how to get rid of ladybugs at one point and it came up).
They come inside in the winter and then leave in spring when it gets warm. So the good news is that it won't last forever. As someone who hates ladybugs and woke up to about 40 on the window, waiting until spring was not an option at all. I still see one every few days, but it's not at all an infestation.

we get one or 2 of those asian beetle/lady bug thingies every few days. usually the cat takes care of them.
I had a bad infestation in my apartment in college a few years back, it was nasty.
My parents have had really bad infestations in the past. My parents had them so bad that my mom walked out the door of their basement to the outside and they were swarming right towards her house. She ran back in and had them all over her, in her hair, and even in her jeans pockets!
They would gather in the corners of their rooms...all over.
You may want to try to get rid of them, because they actually do leave a "spit" or poop or something that can stain curtains and things like that. Also, if you kill them by grabbing them with a paper towel, they smell AWFUL! I don't know if they are a ladybug type or what...but they are definitely different than ladybugs and have more of an orange-ish tint to their shell, as opposed to the bright red color that ladybugs have.
The best way my dad ended up killing a ton...take an open box, spray the inside with a bug spray like Raid (they are extremely sensitive to all kinds of bug spray so can be a cheapo spray and it will still do the trick)...then turn off the lights of where you are seeing them the most...and place a flashlight in the box pointing up towards the ceiling. They will flock to the box and die in there and then you can throw it away. It really did the trick for eliminating them at my parents house!
Aunt-in-law's lakehouse (about 30 mins away) has seen a lot this year, but we haven't seen as many. I think they just come and go in different areas of the city.
They were actually brought in to help protect crops and ended up over-populating...sucks.
omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg that is horrifying!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My skin is crawling just reading your post!!!!
Thanks for the advice everyone - I found 4 more yesterday, and our maintenance guy came back and re-sprayed our doors and windows, and I haven't found any more yet. I'm crossing my fingers that they won't find another way inside, but our guy is willing to come pretty much whenever so I'm just going to be a big baby and call every single time I see one
.
