DH gave in...

we are actually going to put up a tree and decorate this weekend. Last year the only decorating he did was to put up the tree and only decorated it with one box of candy canes...that would have been ok if it was a table top tree but it wasn't. He has agreed to let me get stockings and even started looking for something to be able to hang decorations because he doesn't want any holes in the trim or visible holes left in the walls. Pics to come by the end of the weekend...DH has to work till 7 tonight, Saturday, and Sunday so most stuff will get done after he gets home.

  • well we have two cats that climb everything, including the clothes drying rack when we have it set up because I don't want something to go in the dryer. We have been afraid that the cats will break everything or get hurt. The problem with the holes is all of the trim is natural stained wood. The house has somewhat of a rustic feel to with with hard wood and tile floors, some exposed beams in the dining room and stone work behind the coal stove. But he bugged him enough and I get to decorate. We aren't doing a lot we are just starting to buy stuff so we will add more each year. Now I just have to see how much decorating we will do outside...lol

  • I've used the 3M command adhesive hooks for holiday decorating for years.  They hold really well, but come off cleanly if you remove them carefully and according to the directions.  They have sets of small clear hooks that are perfect for stinging stuff up.  That also keeps most stuff up out of the cats way.
  • i have a cat who tries to climb the tree, but i put up 3 anyway. She always tries to climb them the first couple days they are up because she is curious. I just clap my hands and spook her and tell her NO! Usually, she wont try it again unless she gets extra spunky. Don't let the cat hinder you from putting up decorations, just put that cat into place! LOL

  • We didn't decorate last year and I couldn't wait to decorate this year. I just asked that DH help me get stuff from the attic (all my stuff that moved over from my TH). Now that everything is up, he thinks it looks really nice and has shut up. Many guys dont' care for all the hoopla - that's your job! He'll come around once it's all up.

  • I'm not a big fan of the cats in the first place but DH has had them since they were kittens and they are 3 now. These two don't listen to anything but we will see how it goes. We bought shatterproof ornaments for the tree and some snowflake lights so we will see what else we come up with. Like I said he has to work all weekend so who knows what I might come home with. We received a gift card to lowes as a wedding gift and spent all but like $10 of it last night on christmas decorations.

  • We have the same problem with naughty cats.  One will listen, but the other does whatever he dang well pleases.  I really, really want to decorate our apartment, but I think all I'll be getting is a wreath for the front door.

  • bethicacon, a Christmas tree will definitely put your husband in the holiday mood!  I am glad he gave in because the holiday just isn't the same without decor.  We are getting our tree tonight too!  Yay!
