Hey ladies. Do I have to go to the SS office in Paradise Valley or are their other offices I can go to in the East Valley to change my name? Also, what do I need to take besides my marriage certificate? All help is greatly appreciated.
Re: Name Change
Actually, now there are only two facilities you can go to and change your name (replace your card). Either the one in Paradise Valley, Tatum and Cactus I think, or Central Phoenix (7th ave and VanBuren).
You need your marriage license (I took my certified copy or whatever it is), your driver license, and possibly your birth certificate (this it depends on if they have on file or not. You can call and give them your info and find out).
Good luck!
Thanks girls. That definitely helps. I tried to figure it out online and didn't have much luck. Do you know how much it costs?
BTW. I hate that the knot/nest changed the format and now all my profile stuff is messed up.
There is no charge to change your name with the social security office after marriage. I went a couple weeks ago on a Thursday and was in and out of there within about 30 minutes. Avoid Mondays and Fridays--they told me those were usually their busiest days.
Are you changing your last name or are you hyphenating?
Wow 30 mins. I went on a Thursday and was in and out in 5 mins.
But it's really easy. All the lady asked for was my license and marriage license.

I went to a location in Mesa with my marriage certificate, old ss card and driver's license. It took 20-30 minutes. Here's the address:
SOCIAL SECURITY
702 W JEROME AVENUE
MESA, AZ 85210
They no longer do it at the Mesa location. It's either the Phoenix or PV location.
Bragger!
Haha, I know sorry.

I went to the PV location on like a Wednesday and I was in and out in maybe 10 minutes. It was very painless. THen you just wait 48 hours and you can take the little print out they give you to the DMV to get your stuff changed there.
I didnt want to lose my last name, but my hubby realllly wanted me to take his. So I hyphonated my middle name, kinda silly, and most no one will ever know its there. But I know and it still makes me feel like my old last name is still a part of me. PLUS my old last name was just to cute to give up! BRIGHT! How cute, seriously.
I didn't think of this. I'm not a fan of hyphenating last names...but I didn't think about doing my middle...hmmm! I love my maiden name
Ditto--that's when I did mine as well! I guess we're old married hags around here! LOL
You're right--that is cute!
I decided to hyphenate my last name because I've been at the same job for the past 10 years and some of my clients have been with me since the beginning. They've also been with me through name changes resulting from a prior marriage and subsequent divorce, so I thought it'd be easier for everyone involved if I just added a name to mine rather than change it completely.
Also, I like my maiden name. As I've been told many times, "It's a good Irish name!"
