Vendor Review Help..

Hi ladies :)  I was married in May of '09, but thought I'd ask you since you just got married [CONGRATS!!! by the way]

My video guy wants a review for his website.  I truly don't have anything good about him, other than the price, which makes me think "you get what you pay for."

He arrived at our wedding five minutes before it started [it was in the contract he was to be there 45 minutes before, his excuse was "I didn't have any tapes"], it was written in our contract and signed by him & I that I'd have my videos one month from our wedding date.  I was married May 23, I got them August 23.  And I realize May/June/July are busy months, espically in my area.  But I was promised up one side and down the other I'd have them June 23.  It was written my raw footage was to be included in the fees, I wrote him another check because "If you don't pay, I'll destroy them."

Now he has the nerve to ask for a review.  Soo... how can I tactfully give him a review based on the sh!t he did?  I've given him plenty of negative word of mouths, but I want a written one, maybe he'll take the hint.  Any help you guys can offer would be awesome!

Thanks!!  And happy Friday! Yes

Re: Vendor Review Help..

  • Did he ask by e-mail?  If it's for his website, he'll have the power to take down a bad review.  Therefore, I would simply respond, "I decline to review you."  Why go through the trouble?

That being said, review him plenty on 3rd party sites like weddingwire.  Get the word out about this guy - he sounds iffy.

  • This is a toughie.  You have some choices...

    1. Not respond to his request at all.

    2. Explain to him that your review will be honest and you were a bit dissatisfied that he showed up 5 mins late and that he did not deliver the tapes to you in a timely manner (based on what was agreed upon in your contract).

I prefer to give constructive criticism to vendors because if they really care about their business, they will take what you said and learn from it.

  • I would send him a note:

    Dear Vender,

Unfortunately, I can not provide you with a positive review for your website. You did not meet the contract requirements including arriving to the wedding 45 minutes in advance and delivering our final video within one month of our wedding. Because you did not meet this criteria, the best I can say is that your price met our budget.

    Thanks,

    May Bride.

  • Yeah, it is for his website, thats why I'm torn between bothering or just ignoring the email, I mean it's been almost seven months since my wedding!  I've never heard of weddingwire, I'll check that out.  I'm in Idaho and the ID boards on TN/TK are pretty dead =/  People need to know what a quack he is.

I do want to be constructive, I'm just worried what I'd want to say would come out harsh, so I wanted some input.  I agree Nicole, if he cares, he'll listen.  I really like how you worded your reply arobertson.

Thank you very much for your input!!

  • "It was written my raw footage was to be included in the fees, I wrote him another check because "If you don't pay, I'll destroy them."

That is totally unprofessional!  I can understand missing a delivery date or running late, but that is bordering on extortion.  Anyone that does this doesn't deserve anything but the raw truth.  If it's for his own site, he won't put it up.

Refuse to review him for his site and give an honest review on 3rd party sites.  I'm betting this guy has been running on other people's politeness for too long.

  • I agree with all of the previous posters!  So sorry you had to deal with a bad vendor!
