What's With Wearing Two Wedding Bands?

I've noticed a bunch of ladies (eacerna being one of them, I think?) wearing two wedding bands plus her engagement ring.  When I've asked about this, some have said that they got the second band in celebration of an anniversary, or because of the birth of a child, but then another girl I know started wearing the second band soon after her wedding.

Do any of you know whether there's a traditional reason for wearing a second band?  Or is it just becoming more common because it looks cool?

Re: What's With Wearing Two Wedding Bands?

  • Yep, i got two bands! The 2nd one DH got for me for our 1st year anniversary. I don't think there's a traditional reason. I for one like it because it looks nice having the ering sandwiched by two rings.  I know some women who get two wedding bands right off the bat though. I think it's more of it looking cool than anything else. I don't think any woman would refuse some bling bling!

  • i have three rings per se.  one is the eng ring and the others are matching bands...pave (sp?) so for me it just centered really well with two bands on each side of the eng ring.  so i guess it was a cool factor and since i picked it out, i got what i wanted :)

mine is very similar (this actually may be it) to this but with two pave bands:

  • I got 2 because I thought it looked nice.  My e-ring is a solitaire, and I love the simplicity of it.  I got 2 bands that have small diamonds and sapphires for color and thought that one on each side would compliment it well.  I had the 3 rings soldered together before the wedding and, truth be told, it's much larger than I expected or wanted it to be.  One would have been fine.  I get a lot of compliments on it, but I should have done one and kept the other to wear as a simple band when travelling or when I didn't want to wear something as high/big as my e-ring.

Same for me too! My DH had no idea what get as a 1st anniversary gift and so I suggested a ring to him, and he suprisingly agreed!  I was so happy! The idea actually came from nestie, nicoleandbrian808. I absolutely love the way that the e, a and w rings look together.

  • As pps have said, it's often an anniversary gift - but I think the reason for wanting one is just liking the symmetry of how it looks (hey, I've thought about it!).
  • Yeah, I love the way it looks.  Too bad my fingers are far too stubby to pull off a third ring!  :(

Maybe for a big anniversary I'll switch out my wedding band for two teensy weensy skinny bands and wear them on either side of my e-ring!  :D

  • Dang!  Another ring for your first anniv?  I got a wii fit..there's something wrong w/ this picture.
