I really don't want to be a PITA, but there are people complaining in the babies 0-3 board about us 3er tri people asking the same questions over and over again, and I know you guys won't be annoyed if I ask.
What are your must-haves for baby?
TIA!
Re: New moms
I don't mind when people ask questions on there, I don't know why people get so ticked off. I asked questions all the time.
But. I'm perfectly willing to supply you with my list!
1. The Woombie. This is a neccessity for Hunter, I doubt it will be one for most babies. Because he hates to be put on his back to sleep and will only do so in a swaddle; but breaks out of all swaddles, including the swaddle me blankets, I needed it for him. If that happens to you, I highly recommend it.
2. Sleepers with feet!
3. Gas drops or gripe water. Both are super helpful when baby has a tummy ache.
4. A swing or a bouncy seat. Most babies prefer a swing I think though. Hunter has a crappy one now but I think his Christmas present from Mom and Dad might be a new one!
5. Desitin. Saves Hunter's bottom!
6. A baby gate to keep the dogs away when Hunter's playing on his play mat and I want to go to the bathroom/fold laundry/do dishes.
7. Boppy pillow. We used it to hold him for hours so our arms didn't fall asleep. Its also great for breast feeding holds.
8. A glider or rocking chair. Either one works to help rock Hunter to sleep. We got our glider at a garage sale and keep it in the living room and our rocker is upstairs in his room. Both work.
9. Bud Light Lime. Obviously not for baby, but my new favorite beer - its nice to crack one open and tell DH that its HIS TURN to handle the baby while I watch TV.
Oh...Crunchy gave me the best list before... I hope she shares again!
A swing. Thank god for the swing. We have this one. I wish we had one that plugged in rather than needing batteries. We have this one...
Battery recharger and double sets of rechargeable batteries. Expensive up front, but a saver in the long run.
Soothie Pacifiers. She didn't like these at first...now she'll only take these! Clips to hold them to her outfit so they don't fall on the ground.
Diaper Bag. I like this one because the changing pad is thick, attached, and folds out from the outside. It's also man-friendly and fits perfectly in the bottom of the stroller.
Lansinoh. Really helped me.
Tons of extra blankies. Tons of onesies or kimono-wrap t-shirts.
Pampers NB Blankie-soft diapers. Not digging the Huggies.
Gerber Cloth diapers for spit-up.
Baby carrier. I have this one. Scarlett likes this better than a sling, which I also bought. But Scarlett hates to be bundled and swaddled in general.
Cart Cover. Scarlet LOVES this. But you can put off buying one for a few months.
We use these bottles. Playtex Ventaire.
We use Enfamil Gentlease. Scarlett does best with this one. We've tried the premium and Up & Up. Feh. I don't know why Target is saying it's $100 online. It's $22 in the store. Weird.
We have a big PUR water container that we keep at room temp to make bottles with.
Boppy Pillow. So many uses! J uses it to feed her. We also use it to help her sit up.
Toys that you can dangle from things.
One-touch Ear thermometer. She fights the other ones.
A cheap baby bath lounger from Wal-Mart that Crunchy recommended. So great!
Cotton balls. Cornstarch-based baby powder. Good baby nail clippers
That's a good start...if I think of more, I'll let you know.
Second these!
Scarlett always kicks off her blankets and has cold feet. I just bought some fleece ones for winter.
And the rocking chair...I don't know what I'd do without it. We have a big comfy ugly one...and we both fall asleep in it.
Sorry...one more.
The mobile above her crib...winds up and plays a lullaby. That is her favorite entertainment ever.
I thought of some more and the mobile was one of them. Hunter has one above his pack and play and one above his crib and loves them both (he doesn't sleep in his crib yet but plays in there a lot.
TONS of blankets. Hunter doesn't sleep with a blanket b/c of the SIDs risks but during the day if he's hanging out I lay a nice blankie down for him to lay on. He usually spits up or pees on them so they're constantly going through the wash.
A good stroller. I hated the "set" that came with our car seat and got a great jogging stroller instead and I love it.
Soothie pacifiers are the BEST. Had them for all my kids, loved them!
I'm sure everything else has changed in the last 9 years
but I highly recommend a swing - they can be a lifesaver!
