I need help from the locals!

Hi everyone!  I live in California and may get to fit in a quick trip to NYC week after next.  Arrive around 7pm on Monday and will be in the city all day Tuesday or Wednesday (visiting family out of the city the other day).  What do you think is the top thing NOT to miss?  I always like asking locals vs. tour guide books.

Re: I need help from the locals!

  • What do you like to do? See a play? Shop? Go to see the windows and the tree in Midtown? Give us an idea and we can point you in the right direction. :)
  • I love shows but my husband doesn't really... we'll probably see Ragtime if he decides he's down to see a show, but probably for the most part, we'll stay away from the theatres (although... I think there's a place to get last minute tickets for cheaper than normal... if you know about that, please share!).

We like good random restaurants (my husband could do a great time hosting Man vs. Food if he had a chance to), so if you can think of anything food related that you think is not to miss, please share!

Other than that, we just really like to ask people what their favorite thing to do/see/eat in their region is then go from there.  Thanks!

  • Definitely see the tree.  Perhaps splurge and ice skate at Rockefeller Center too.  It's an experience.

I recommend eating at the Water Club.  It's an expensive night out but the food is delicious and the service is great.

Lastly, I recommend you see Avenue Q.  It's great, even for people who don't like theater.  It's off Broadway now so tickets might be a little cheaper.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thanks for the recs!  I definitely didn't know Avenue Q was still playing anywhere... that's a good option!  Thanks!
