Would you say this house is in a good area?

1027  Condor DR in Dallas, TX 75237

It's 4 minutes from the Dallas Police Academy, where DH will be working.  Is this a decent area?  It seemed kinda industrial when we drove around over there a few months ago.  We didn't see the house or the surrounding area, so I wasn't sure what ya'll would think.

Please be honest!!

ETA: It says it's in the Grand Prairie ISD and backs up to Crockett Elementary School.

Re: Would you say this house is in a good area?

  • I am not sure where that is, but I think Grand Prairie is a pretty decent school district.  I will also say, I know people come on here and say how bad dallas schools are, and maybe the neighborhood schools are bad, but their magnet schools are rated some of the best in the state.  Good luck! :)

  • It's probably not in the greatest area but without seeing the actual neighborhood I can't be sure. Generally neighborhoods that have higher foreclosure rates are less desirable. Have you thought about looking for something in Arlington?
  • I'll drive by this weekend and see what the neighborhood feels like.

We are renting, if that matters.  The realtor I'm talking to said the neighborhood is like brand new, so it's still "up in the air" on the quality of the area, if that makes sense.

That'd be AMAZING.  I'd so appreciate it.  I won't be in Dallas til the 18th of this month, and I need to start ruling out houses (especially if this one isn't ideal - I love the look online) before I come. Thank you!!

  • We have friends who live in that area. They like their house, but said they will probably move before they have kids. Also when I look on google maps, they display the sale price and the rent price of the house. The rent seems a bit steep rent for a house that they are trying to sell for that price, IMHO.

ETA: nevermind it says it just sold for that price. That is a nice profit they will be making off your rent.

  • that area isn't the best, but isn't the worst either.  it really depends on what you are looking for.  it should be safe but i think it is a little run down.

if you look a few major streets to the west (off carrier) those neighborhoods are a much nicer

i for sure think you could get a better deal for your money, or see if they will take less rent per month

but I think Grand Prairie is a pretty decent school district.

I 100% disagree with this. I don't think you have children, so this isn't a factor. But if school district is a factor, GPISD would be a deal breaker for me. Let me know if it's a factor and I can email you specifics.

That area is kind of "new" over there. We lived just northwestof there (30 and NW 19th) and I HATED it. But where I was there was nothing but old apartments and it was really sketchy (it was Grand Prairie, not Dallas, not that that makes a huge difference). I know they've built a lot of new neighborhoods in the area you're looking, and there are a few shopping areas along 30 (a walmart, best buy, etc) There are some really nice neigborhoods if you go southwest, toward 20 & 360. So I'm not really recommending or not recommending it, helpful huh? :)

I would listen to her on this one, because I was just guessing based on the fact I hadn't heard anything bad about it.

  • that area is not awesome.  that's where my little when i was doing big brothers/big sisters lived, so i was over there twice a month.

if you're looking for the south dallas area, we live in grand prairie but down by joe pool lake and really like it.  and for the record, when we have school aged children who have moved past colors and numbers, we will be moving OUT of the gpisd.

However, there is one Exemplary-rated school in Grand Prairie - right in that area. It's the charter school that I teach at, Harmony Science Academy. It's only K-9th grade this year, but they'll be adding an additional grade each year. www.hsagp.org for more info about the school.

  • I live in GP and that is not a good area. Very high concentration of sex offenders. As for the school district, I would try to stay in the Southern end of GP, south of 20 if you could. My kids were enrolled in an exemplary Elementary and I couldn't have been happier with the environment.

We have since moved, but are still in GP, but in the Mansfield school district which is highly sought after. If you would like additional info, just let me know. HTH
