pregnancy massage

just booked one of these suckers for later this week. Have any of you ladies gone for one before?

I'm really really really really hoping they will be able to make my super sore ribs feel better. These suckers have been pissing me off for at least the past 3-4 months.

I now have to come up with a plan to avoid busting out into a fit of giggles during the massage though, am very ticklish, this could be very embarrassing....

Re: pregnancy massage

  • I had one done at 17/18 weeks..although I wasn't big nor in as much pain, it was still weird lying on my tummy so she had a pillow/form specially for pregnant women. It was like a big foam 'thing' that I climbed over and into - stuck my bump in it and they she supported my legs/chest with pillows. It felt SOOOOOO good to lay on my belly!!! mmmmmmmm.......

I've hear that the laying on your side ones are good too!! Tell them all that hurts and what hurts the most (in case time is running low they focus on the BAD things more).

Speaking or which - I think it's time for another one!

    Have fun & enjoy!!!!

  • I got a couple a month during my pregnancy!  Enjoyed them.  :)

The real magic was prenatal acupuncture, though.  *Amazing*.  Took away my swelling completely in one shot.  Got rid of aches and pains.  Even threw me into labour 3 days before my due date.  (With my midwife's blessing.)

I hope your therapist will set up the table so you can lie on your stomach.  Nice change for you, and it can help get the baby in a good position.  Just focus on relaxing and breathing and you won't be ticklish.  (If you get nervous you might get the giggles, though.  ;) Tell your RMT that this might be an issue for you and she'll be careful of doing any light-touch stuff.

  • Shannon if you have any specific questions about what to expect when you go for a massage just let me know and I can answer them.

The most common positioning would be on your side with pillows, or on your belly on a special body pillow made especially for pregnant women (like the one Lisa described). Make sure to let your RMT know how you have been feeling lately, and anything that has been bothering you. Don't worry about the giggling, the therapist won't mind, I have a few clients that burst out into uncontrollable giggles when I work on certain areas, I always laugh with them!

  • I had a couple and they were wonderful.  Though Scarlett got super excited and she kicked the crap out of me.

  • I haven't had one but I am extremely jealous.  I have been thinking about getting one for months..don't know why I have been avoiding it!

Please update and let me know how it went, maybe I can be convinced I need one too!

  • I've gone for 3. My RMT doesn't have the special belly pillow so I have to lie on my side. I haven't found the massages to help too much with my back/side pain but they're relaxing nonetheless

  • I am considering getting a gift certificate for a massage fro my sister-in-law. She is 6 months pregnant and I thought it would be a great X-mas gift.  I am looking in Union/Morris/Bergen county (If there is one near Mountainside even better!) . Are there places that you recommend?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I was going to do a SPA FINDER but I would prefer finding a place..

  • Mmmm yes. I had 2 and they were fantastic... *dreams off*

Now I want a massage. And no, I'm not pregnant. But I sure could use a massage!

  • The first massage I ever had was a pregnancy one done right after my first trimester done at Eveline Charles (Edmonton). It was actually a couples massage with my DH. It so so nice, it was both our first massage, so I didn't have anything to compare it to at the time, but it was so good! And so worth it. There's actually a pregnancy spa recently opened up in our area that I'm going to try next time I'm expecting.
