Snow

Can you guys believe all this snow?  I don't really like snow, but I do have an appreciation for it at Christmastime.  Last night when H and I were driving home the trees looked so beautiful. I am looking out my french doors now, and my backyard looks like a Christmas card.

Re: Snow

  • I'm so excited! Having lived in Florida for the past 8 years, this pretty much made my week.
  • We got 3-4" here. We went to get our tree this morning. It was fun in the snow, but we had to shake it off any trees we wanted to see. It looks gorgeous out though. Like a picture on a postcard.

  • I love the first snow! (I'm not counting the rogue snow we had in the middle of october) We went to get our tree this morning too but Forestry Farms was closed because of the snow! We were so sad! We ended up going to Durkee farm because we definitely wanted to get one today. It was so pretty in the snow but they ran out of saws and twine and there weren't even a lot of people there- kind of annoying. I love this fresh snow though :)

    So cute :)

The only annoying thing is all the people who were driving around with snow still piled a few inches high on the roof of their cars AND completely obscuring their back windows.  Big pet peeve of mine.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • We only got a dusting here on the coast.  :(  Crazy tho', 3 days ago it was 60 degrees!

That annoys me too! I know people are in a hurry sometimes but seriously?? Big sheets of snow and ice flying at other people's cars on the highway is not safe. Not that they even notice because they can't see out their back windows!

Ditto! I was coming home from a baby shower this afternoon and getting off 495 I saw a car with snow still on their hood and roof. I am 5'1 (on a good day) and I can get the snow off the roof of my car. They have no excuse.

Good to know! I haven't had to drive in snow for a very long time, so I'll make sure to sweep off the top before I start driving. It always used to drive me crazy when people in Florida slowed to a crawl when it started raining (which is pretty much every afternoon throughout the summer). I'd like to avoid ticking anyone off if at all possible...

Ha, my very first winter driving there, I didn't know any better and only cleared my windows. Not the hood of my car- or the top and 100 yards down the road, I was blinded by all the snow flying off of my hood into my windshield and had to pull over to brush it off. That's how it dawned on me that you must have to do it to the top too to keep that from happening ot people behind you!

    lol.

  • LOL, you non-natives are cracking me up with your snow stories :)

ThisKindofLove, you're going to have to keep updating us on how you're feeling about the weather here as the winter progresses, and your newbie experiences with snow.  It's fun to see it through the eyes of someone who finds it so novel!

Oh, I will! I grew up in DC, so I'm not totally unfamiliar with it, but we're talking about a city here that pretty much closes its doors when they get three inches of the white stuff. Then, of course, Florida doesn't get snow at all. You wanna talk hurricanes, tornadoes, or 90 degree weather in October? I'm your gal. But snow? Not so much.

I'm thrilled to be living someplace that a) actually gets snow... and b) knows what to do when they do get it. I can pretty much assure you I will be bouncing off the walls in elation the first few times we get some... after that, I make no promises.

  • we had just finished decorating our tree, had a fire going in the fireplace and MH happened to look outside Sat night and it was snowing. I got so excited that I whipped the front door open forgetting that MH had set the alarm already. Oops. I freaked because DS was sleeping upstairs. Luckily he didn't wake up.

  • I loooooove the snow. I love all the seasons. My drive into work today was beautiful, the pine trees in the median still had snow on them, it was gorgeous. The first snow is always the best snow. Now I'm ready for the big one haha.
