BR- Are all drop side cribs bad?

Just wondering since I just purchased a Graco Lauren that is drop side. On the BRU website it said it had stationary sides and we just got it delivered and it says it has drop side. I called BRU about it and they said I am welcome to return it but this crib was not in the recall and it's certified safe. Hmmmm, should I return it anyway?

If it is safe, it's one heck of a deal... $99! I first paid $144 but now it's on sale they refunded me the difference and I still got to get free shipping (for orders of $100 or more).

Re: BR- Are all drop side cribs bad?

  • I didn't think it was all of them - just the ones with recalls/bad safety ratings. That said, I could be wrong (although I hope not, since all of the cribs under $300 here that I've been able to find have drop sides!), so I'll be interested to see what others have to say.
  • Not all of them have recalls and the one you got is actually rated really well in the Baby Bargains book, so I think you should be okay.  Just fill out the registration card that came with it so that they can notify you directly if any issues come up down the line.
  • We have that crib and it seems great. I actually really like the way it looks too:-)  You could always make it stationary if you really wanted to.
  • That's the crib we almost got. It's rated very highly in the Baby Bargains book, but note that that book came out BEFORE the drop-side crib recall. If that crib is not on the recall list, then it should be OK. I'd get ahold of the recall itself and read it to see WHY and what about drop sides is bad.
