Today we looked at 5 houses. One was a possibility and another one was a YES! We talked to the IL's, showed them pics etc and we decided we are going to put in an offer tomorrow. It's only been on the market for a couple days. The house was shown a lot today. I have a feeling that there are going to be a lot of offers. All we can do is try.
I can't believe some of the houses. AWFUL!!!!! One place I walked through it and out the door...and told the realtor don't put that one on our list. Another one house had a fireplace in the dining room. Strange.
Our house is out there some where! Art and I feel buying a house is a bigger committement than getting married. Getting married was easy....buying a house is giving us a stomach ache. lol
Re: House Hunting
How exciting!
House hunting was fun, it was the process afterwards that was so stressful.
I hope you get it!!
I can't tell you how many craptastic houses we looked at when we were hunting! The pictures look good on the web, but when you get there...sheesh! We weren't even supposed to look at our house. The realtors suggested we run by it before we started looking at the ones on our list to view. By that time it had been several months and getting close to the wedding (and our house hunting cuttoff). We looked at the others and they did nothing for us. We sort of liked a house in the same neighborhood, but it just didn't do as much for us as this house did, so we put in an offer a few days later. When you find it you'll know.
Good luck!

Exciting! Good luck!!!!
Though just a warning, if you find that your offers are not being accepted, start to consider some of those less desirable houses. DH and I put in 9 offers on houses and didn't get a single one (we were the back-up offer on 2, though), and the big reason is we were bidding on very desirable houses. But I noticed that several of the NOs! from our list are still on the market. Had we bid on those back when we were able to get a house we'd probably be living there and have it all fixed up and nice by now. But as it is, we wanted only a "nice" house so we're still living in our condo.
its amazing that some places are even on the market with how they look. We had one that we saw, i walked in.. thru the kitchen.. 2 feet into the living room and back out. i was honestly scared haha. It was a foreclosure were it was obvious someone was still trying to live there. Half a sandwich, tooth paste and tooth brush on the kitchen sink counter. clothes scattered all over the living room. Then the wall going up the stairs, was painted with hands. like they didn't use a brush. They put hand prints everywhere. I was so creeped out. And scared if the person was still in there and what they'd do to us haha. Needless to say, its still on the market...6 months later. And they finally lowered the price another 20k. But i dont think even that will do it. Other then that, we saw big holes in ceilings even. one, we loved the downstairs but they obviously didnt finish renovating the upstairs and holes were everywhere lol.
I disagree. Don't settle. You will eventally get the house meant for you and Art.
People bid on the desirable houses because they are DESIRABLE. Those that are less desirable are not bid on for a reason.
I am a big believer in "you'll know it when you see it". We looked at like 30 houses and as soon as I saw mine online I knew it was my house. I used to go and drive by it even before Paul would agree to see it and I'd sit and stare at it. Yes I was a house stalker. You will know when it's your house. Trust me.
Yes, I strongly agree with Elisa on this one. Over 3 months, we saw 100 homes, and only maybe 2 or 3 were halfway decent. Our house was something I didn't fall in love with right away...it took alot of HGTV programming, and imagination with my eyes to truly see my house. You & Art should be able to buy the house YOU want...and not settle for something less. You - the buyer - is in control - not the house. Your house is out there, and it's waiting on you & Art to buy it.
Besides, all these little problems with homes, are minor issues. You can paint the rooms a fresh color, modernize the home with new fixtures, weed out the ugliness and make it your own. It's like doing your own version of extreme makeover - the house just needs the "good bones," and it will be yours.
Can't wait to see you on Wed so we can talk more about this!! yeah!
Again, I'm going to disagree. We put in 9 offers. Spent 8 months searching. After that much heartache and frustration we just gave up. But then there was a house we didn't buy because we were concerned about kitchen and one of the bathrooms smelled like mold and the people who lived there had garbage everywhere.
It eventually sold and 3 months later it came back on the market completely renovated. It was BEAUTIFUL!!! I couldn't believe it when we went back to look at it. They only spent $35,000 and the house was PERFECT! When we looked at it the house was $75,000 under our budget. When they put it back on the market it was $25,000 over. We had the chance to buy that house and we let it go! We could have created that house. But we couldn't get past the mold in the bathroom and the ripped up linoleum and one broken cabinet in the kitchen, and the garbage.
I kick myself almost every day for that. It was on a hill, too, with a clear view of the ocean and was at the end of a street through a gate... ugh! Seriously, things can be fixed. As long as it's in a nice neighborhood and not a health hazard everything can be fixed! THAT house WAS meant for us, but we couldn't look past it's problems. Clearly a flipper saw the potential, but we, the average buyers, could not. Please don't make our mistake!
