Hey,
I'm having the hardest time coming up with a gift for my 18 month old nephew. I've walked up and down the toys r us aisle and I'm just not being inspired. I realize that he won't remember I gave it to him, and this won't be some life-changing gift, but I like my gifts to be special, ya know? I know a lot of you have kids, so I'm hoping one of you has the magic answer.
Three things you should know:
1) He's a mover. Early crawler, early walker, early runner. The kid's not happy unless he's moving.
2) Whatever gift I get needs to fit in a van with a family of five, their luggage, and the christmas presents they acquire, for an 8 hour drive.
3) Under $30? Hopefully?
Thoughts?

I like the felt board idea, but maybe next year. I think he would probably chew on the felt people at this point.
Leapfrog - I'm trying to remember... I'm not sure he has the attention span for a leapfrog yet, if it's like the one I got my nieces a few years back. I do like the leapfrong line and would like to get something educational, but I think I have to wait a year for that, too.

What about a little people set?

You can get him one with wheels, like the plane or bus, and he can crawl around on the floor with it.
When I worked in a toddler room at a daycare, the most used toys were books, trucks (the ones that made noise of course), Playdoh, there was a leapfrog (I believe it was that brand) caterpillar that had the letters on it's legs and it did fun things and sang the alphabet...they loved that one so much we had to take the batteries out! But it's cool because it has a cord so they can walk it around the room with them
ooh! JKip, my niece and nephews had something like that.
Found this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-19106-Alphabet-Pal/dp/B001H0SOT6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1260204359&sr=8-3, definitely the your price range.
