Anyone cut your own Christmas tree?
If so where do you do this?
Do they shake it and bail it?
Do they drill a hole in the bottom for those stand straight stands?
About how much do you pay (if you remember)?
DH and I tried a place last year in the southern york area and we ended up getting infested with bugs and although I called and asked beforehand - they don't drill the trees. So I'd like some nestie feedback for this. So I don't end frustrated again this year. Thanks ladies!!
Re: Anyone cut your own Christmas tree?
We go to Myer's Tree Farm off of the Leader Heights exit of 83. It is on Leader Height's Road (very easy to get to!!!).
They do shake it for us and put it in the wrap for us to bring home. They will drill a hole in the bottom if you need it.
The cheapest tree is $35 and they go up from there. This is our 2nd year going there and we are pleased. Last year we had a very nice tree and this year our tree is FANTASTIC from there and we had great service from them. I know another nestie goes there as well and like it there. I haven't had any bug issues (knock on wood!).
My parents (and my brother on Friday) go to McCurdy's at the Campground Road location in Dillsburg.
They do shake and tie it together.
Yes, they do drill the holes - those are the best kind of stands!
I believe my brother paid $40ish, although it depends on the type of tree that you buy. My parent's pay more for a Frasier fur.
We always cut our own and both grew up going to McCurdy's in Dillsburg with our families when we were young. The past two years we've used a place in MD, but we cut our tree down from McCurdys this morning before coming back home since we were there for Thanksgiving and I wasn't too much help for DH! The prices seemed to range from $40-70, and I think we paid $56 for ours. They do shake it and bail it and drill the hole if needed.
I've never had a fake tree, yet we've never had any trouble with bugs or anything. I love hunting for the perfect tree each year!
We went to McCurdy's last year and it is a lovely experience no doubt but the prices are a little high for me. This year we are heading to Elicker Tree Farm near Ski Rountop. I'm told it is $28 for any type of tree. All are cut your own and they shake, drill and bail it.
Should you want to try McCurdy's they have a $4 online coupon for any Monday-Friday purchase.
Good luck.
If so where do you do this? We go to Cole's Tree farm. It's 4 to 5 miles past Arendtsville on Rt 234. (Past where the Apple Harvest Festival is held)
Do they shake it and bail it? Both, I think. We don't get ours bailed because we only have a couple of miles to travel with it, but they definitely bail there. I think if you get it bailed, they also shake it, but we've always stomped ours up and down once we get home anyway.
Do they drill a hole in the bottom for those stand straight stands? Yes
About how much do you pay (if you remember)? $30 for Frazier and Douglas firs, not such what a scotch pine goes for, but I know it's cheaper then the firs.

We went to Elickers last year on the recommendation of a nestie and had a great experience. Will be heading back there this year for our tree as well.
