Food Help - What to bring?
I need something to bring to the "graduation party" for my CNA class.
It's a lunchtime thing, and I was thinking something heavy hors d'oeuvres-ish or a dip that I could make in the crock pot and take with me. The catch is that it needs to be relatively inexpensive, easy to keep warm (crock pot would be ideal) and rather basic. I don't think anyone else would appreciate brie or stuffed figs or, well you know what I mean. I had that buffalo chicken dip in mind but wanted some other ideas as well.

meatballs!
bacon-wrapped water chestnuts
crockpot chicken wings
bruschetta
chili dip

If dandy's suggestion is too complicated, just make them some pigs in blankets. Hillshire Farms lil' smokies wrapped in pillsbury biscuits. Super easy, cheap and always a hit.

it's too early to declare that!
I feel like we are in the same class, just a few states away. If I had to bring food for my class, I would also need to bring something easily recognizable. The other day I had a granola bar and one of the girls looked at me, with a look of horror, and said "WHAT are you EATing?!"
Peanut butter tofu.
Get peanut sauce and extra firm tofu. Cut the tofu into thin(ish) slices and marinate in the peanut sauce. Then bake on 350. I was told for 20 minutes (flipping after 10 minutes) but I always end up leaving it in for like an hour.
Can be served at any temperature.
Either that, or guacamole with chips. A really easy guacamole "recipe" I have: Take salsa, add in an avocado for every cup or so of salsa. Voila! You have guacamole.
Alternatively, I have the a cookie cutter of the sign for I Love You. I'd be happy to let you make some cookies with it.

Does it have to be warm? What about taco dip?
8 oz pkg cream cheese
8 oz sour cream
taco seasonings packet
salsa chunky/not too watery
mexican cheese
tortilla chips
Soften cream cheese and mix with sour cream and taco seasoning. Pour into a pie dish and smooth across the bottom (can also put into a smaller [8x8] baking dish). Spread salsa over the top and then cheese on top of that. To make the salsa less watery you can dump it through a strainer first. Serve with tortilla chips. Delish, cheap, and easy!
A couple easily recognized cheap appetizers that transport well.
South of the Border Dip -- Spread 1 can of refried beans or black bean dip on a medium cookie sheet. Mix 1 cup of sour cream with 1/2 cup salsa and spread over the beans. Add diced tomatos, red onion, drained corn, roasted red peppers, black olives and shredded cheese (cheddar or pepper jack work well). Add 1 cup shredded rotisserie chicken mixed with 1/4 cup salsa or seasoned ground beef if you want. Serve with tortilla chips.
Tortilla pinwheels
Chicken satay with peanut sauce (there is a recipe in my blog)
Fruit platter with cream cheese dip
Hummus and veggie platter
