More work bullshoot . . .

My bosses father passed away on Friday so boss is gone to Missouri for the funeral.  I'm hoping he will stay there until after Christmas . . . he hasn't been home for a year and really needs some time with his family.

In the meantime, I'm stuck in the office managing our awesome staff.

Tech 1 and 2 are dating.  Tech 2 took in an injured crow from someone who brought it in.  Tech 2 knows we do not take in wildlife (issues with communicable diseases) and took the crow to the back cages and hid it.  Tech 1 helped her by looking at the crow and playing doctor.  Both techs took xrays of the crow and used hospital medication and supplies to treat it.

I found out today when I realized that these two had not entered the crow into our system or paid for anything.  While I don't mind helping out, this has really gotten me fired up.  It is illegal to perform any veterinary services when not under the direct supervision of an actual vet.  Our DVM had no idea the crow was even in the building.  They also didn't properly document the care and treatment of the crow, which is just as bad.  On top of that, they put the crows xray information into the digital system under a false name.  These two knowingly broke rules and laws with every intention of not following the proper channels.

I spoke with Tech 1 who said he didn't know that our DVM was unaware of the crows existence, let alone what was done for him.  However, our DVM NEVER leaves the office when we are open . . . . so whats the freaking excuse?  Plus, Tech 1 is supposed to be our supervisor on shift.  If he can't supervise properly and willingly engages in this type of behavior . . . well . . . he can find another job asap.

Tech 2 said it wasn't the doctors "business" that she took the crow in or performed medical services without permission.  Whatever.  She went home in a tizzy.

If either of these two gives me crap tomorrow I'm going to lay them off . . . I'm tired of dealing with their bs.

Ugh.

  • Honestly to me it sounds like it's at least time for a suspension without pay...if they are going to act like 12 year olds they should be treated as such!

  • That's crazy!  Rules like that are there for a reason!  I agree with Rachel that some sort of repercussions are necessary for these actions.  Those seem like pretty serious issues.  I love it when people feel they're entitled to modify and make rules for themselves and don't understand when others call them out on it or why it would be a problem Confused

  • Ditto- wow! That def sounds like suspension or something of the sort AND monies owed to the business! WOW!  Under a wrong name, etc, AND A SUPERVISOR!?

No way...  Good luck w that and lots of support to you!

  • Yep, I definately have to ditto Rach.
  • With that behavior, tech 1 should be let go. She intentionally broke rules and didn't see anything wrong with it.
  • Yikes! My 2 cents = they broke rules and laws, thus their a$$es are fired. And I would document the h*ll out of it so they can't file for unemployment.

  • If laws were broken they need to go. They are putting your whole practice on the chopping block by doing what they did! Completly unexcuseable!

    Yes

I'd like to give this post a hells yes. I'm sure there are less dramatic and more trustworthy vet techs who would love a job right now.

  • This is a licensing and insurance liability and they should be fired.

Breaking laws, falsifying documentation, using equipment and stealing/dispensing medication without consent, jeopardizing the health of other patients, intentional deception...

I am so not kidding around.  They should be fired.  Easy-peasy.
