F/U: H1N1....long!

I just wanted to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers our family received. I also know you all wanted me to keep you updated, so here goes...

He was 24 years old, absolutely no health problems other than "the flu" he had just caught and he was fighting off the Dr. with everything he had. After being persuaded to go to the ER because he couldn't breathe they immediately moved him to ICU and put him on a vent. By the time his mom was contacted and able to get to the ER he was in a medically induced coma and his outlook never improved. He spent 16 days in ICU and his mom only left his side one time for 20-30 minutes to go and get food. Other than that, she lived at the hospital. While there he developed ARDS. I guess this is something that is usually developed while in the hospital and it's a very serious lung condition. Last week on Thanksgiving they were told it would be a miracle if he survived. His lungs were 'rock hard' and seeping oxygen in to his body and an air pocket had developed near his heart. They had inserted tubes in his lungs to drain the fluid and the poor kid was so swoolen and just filled with fluids and infection. At one point there was literally green fluid seeping from his eyes, ears, nose, mouth etc... I believe there were over 30 IV's running through him and they had him in some sort of rotating bed to keep the fluid from surrounding his heart. They needed to do surgery, but they couldn't move him. The Dr's told his mom that if he ever came through this it would be hard telling the kind of rehab he would need and that he for sure wouldn't be the same.

Well... thismorning at 4:45am he passed away. He leaves behind a baby girl who is 1 and a mother who doesn't know what to do with herself. He had been through some hard times lately, but he was a good kid and it's so sad to see something so horrible happen to someone so young and with so much to live for.

Thanks again for all of the prayers, please continue to pray for his daughter and his mother. He was an only child and she is really taking this so hard, as I am sure you can all imagine.
