Sax

I was just cruising B&N pet biography books for my BIL and I saw this! Did you know about this book??!!!!

The little fuzzy on the cover entices me to check it out. So cute!

Re: Sax

  • I just read it a few months ago...I've hesitated about reading it b/c I worry that people are going to read it and be like, "Hey, I'll raise and Owl".  She does put the disclaimer that its federally illegal in the front, but thats all she mentions of it.  There were some things I didn't totally agree with (like the water thing) but it was overall pretty good.  I think it gives the general public an idea of what its like for us rehabbers.  I think Barn Owls (which is what Wesley is....and what my babies are!) eat way more than most raptors.  We're going thru about 14 mice A DAY to feed these guys.  And at about 0.35/mouse = roughly $5 a day to raise them...we'll have them for about 3 months.

You should at least check it out at the library.  The writing is kinda crappy, but its very interesting. Her pictures are cute too.

I know exactly what she means when she says he's doing his no-nos.  Its pretty funny.

Oh, I got a shirt w/ Wesley on it from one of our Elfster exchanges! Its super cute!

  • I'd really love to take time to read something outside of the Frog and Toad series, but I don't that's going to happen in reality. He's one cute little baby. I hope that the book doesn't glamorize illegal ownership of owls but as you know it probably could. People suck. In a somewhat related topic, we were talking about exotic animal trafficing today at work. it's so sad. I'll stick with my dog than you very much :-)

  • Ugh! Don't get me started on the exotic pet trade! It seems to be a highly "redneck" syndrome too.  "Hey man, cheyck owt muh wulf hybrid dawg".  "Lets get the kids Sugar Gliders!  Sure their supposed to be nocturnal, but the kids reaaaaally want them."  "We raised this here *** and he's just the sweetest thing."  "We raised this baby squirrel and loved on it and fed it only acorns and now its big and has started biting, can y'all take him?"

I'm sorry, there are PLENTY of perfectly good dogs and cats in shelters across the country that are ment to be pets.   These other animals are not.  And its your fault b/c millions of them have to be euthanized every day just so you can be the cool redneck in the trailer park.

Ok, stepping down from the soapbox.......your little mister is looking quite handsome these days!

  • You have the rednecks down there, then you have the elite status symbol seekers up here. The people with more money than brains that can buy anything they want. Sick.
