Work is "delayed" until 9.

We are currently in the midst of a snowstorm (as I'm sure the Chicago-land ladies are and possibly Stacy as well!)

MH's enthusiasm to try out his new snow blower?  Gone.  This snow is the dense, wet, heavy stuff on top of about 2" of slush so the snow blower isn't "cutting" through.  He and our neighbor are outside trying to shovel through (8"+ in the least areas).

I called our "work hotline".  "The office has a tentative delayed opening of 9 am CST.  Please check back on the special announcement mailbox after 8 am."  Meaning they realize it's bad enough to say "Yeah,, okay... we'll give you a little extra time to dig out", but not bad enough to say "Stay home safe with your family."  Confused

The Governor has declared a State of Emergency, we're under a Blizzard Warning until midnight, ALL schools were closed LAST EVENING already.  And adults are still expected at work.

Something's wrong with this picture.

  • At least it gives you more time to prepare and more time for them to delay even more!  I've heard about this big storm but haven't paid much attention to it.  We are just getting lots of rain since yesterday.

  • Our snow has stopped and we didn't get nearly as much as they estimated since we're southwest of the city. But it's supposed to snow a bit later today and then get really windy and cold.

Luckily (if you can call it that) I'm home today anyway with Declan because he was tested positive for influenza and has a fever of 102.

  • That sucks.  I hate when businesses would rather have you risk their life than hurt the bottom line.

Like Kristen said, we didn't get as much snow as they thought.  THe temperatures are supposed to start dropping like crazy today. I think we already reached our high this morning.

  • Paula, i figured you guys would be closed or something. Our news here is talking non stop about the blizzard in wisconsin and said if you live in WI dont go anywhere. Plus the blowing and drifting (at least here) is suppose to get awful today at like noon. Minneapolis will have 7 inches by this afternoon, and where i live will have 4-5 thank goodness i dont have to be anywhere.
  • I hope all you ladies stay safe in any travel you have to do today.

  • Awww, I hope Declain is feeling better! Sad

Well if I have to, I'm taking an unpaid day.  No way - Greg and the neighbor spent 2 1/2 hours shovelling the driveway and it's still snowing (it's supposed to change from the thick, heavy stuff to lighter, fluffy stuff later as it gets colder, but winds are expected to continue being 25-40 mph or higher later today.  Due to the weight of the snow and winds already, several towns are out of power so obviously some areas are closed entirely.)

After shovelling, someone 2 hours up decided he'd take his 4WD out to go to work... and made it 10' feet before turning sideways in the middle of the street.  Greg and 2 neighbors helped him get unstuck, but if his 4WD did that, no way my Fusion's going anywhere until we're plowed out!

Bonus: I baked up the Gingebread dough I made this weekend but didn't have time to bake.  Now I wish I'd made the whole batch - they're soft, they're a little spicy, and WOW - can't wait to try them!!
