My dad is a classical music nut and he's gotten me into it, starting at the age of six when I started playing piano. Every year he gives me a mixed CD of classical music of varying categories.
This year, I want to give him a CD of some of my favorite Christmas Carols - but not the ones we grew up on. I'm talking about modern ones that have come out that are well done, but aren't too heavy as to give my classical music loving father a heart attack.
I need suggestions. Do you have any favorite Christmas Carols done by modern singers (... say... 1980's or later)?
So far I have:
Josh Grobin "O Holy Night"
Barenaked Ladies / Sarah McLauglin "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
Michael Buble "I'll be home for Christmas"
Trans-Siberian Orchestra "Christmas Canon"
Manheim Steamroller - "Carol of the Bells" (-I'm hedging on this one...)
SheDaisy - "How Can I Keep From Singing?"
Re: Fav *Modern* Christmas Carols
One of my favorites is Carrie Underwood - Do You Hear What I Hear.
I'll do that.
Check out the band Newsong. The album is called The Christmas Shoes. I can't think of any songs from it right now except for the song The Christmas Shoes but it is one of my favorite Christmas cds. They have some of the own songs as well as traditional Christmas songs.
MY BLOG!
Oooo! Jamie for the win! I love that one.
Keep them coming, guys! I really appreciate your help!
Faith Hill - Where are you Christmas
Kenny Rogers - Mary did you know (that one might be inching close to the cutoff line)
Tried to post this earlier but my stupid internet wasn't working...I was going to say any from the Harry Connick Jr. Christmas cd and my favorite Christmas carol and my fav. version is Baby its Cold Outside sung by Zooey Deschanel and Leon RedBone (its the one from the Elf soundtrack).
ps-I think you should send us all a copy - it sounds like such a great cd!
Straight No Chaser has a CD out! I enjoy the Christmas Can-Can. Awesomeness!

Jumping in late here....
I just downloaded some more Christmas music last night... each year I allow myself another 10-15 songs... I'm up to 60 songs now ...here are some of my faves
* Josh Groban - What Child Is This
* TLC - Sleigh Ride (kind of old school, but not exactly traditional...my head always be-bops to this one!)
* Mariah Carey - O Holy Night
* Joan Osbourne - Angels We Have Heard on High
* Lenka - All My Bells Are Ringing
oh one more...
Boyz II Men - Silent Night (soo good!!)
Anything from James Taylor's Christmas album. Especially "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" or "Winter Wonderland."
James is so easy to listen to!
