Out of curiosity, how much do you think you've spent on diapers and wipes so far?

(If you don't mind sharing!)

Re: **Rachel**

  • Hmm...I usually wait for a "deal" at Target and/or Wal Mart and buy three BIG boxes then.  I'd say $200 for diapers.  I also cut coupons like crazy - I will not buy diapers unless I have a coupon for them AND there's a deal.

We don't use wipes because our pedi told us that its better for baby's butts to wet a soft paper towel (like Viva, which I get with coupons for fairly good prices) and use those.  It was kind of pain in the butt when he was pooping a lot but now that he's slowed down its a ton easier to use the paper towels and a ton cheaper.

    HTH!

We went through about one extra large case of Pampers  ($41) every month and one tub of Pampers Sensitive wipes a week ($3 if bought in bulk=$12).  To total $53.

If you're doing price comparisons for cloth diapering, it is absolutely price effective to cloth diaper especially if you plan to have more than one child. You can get BG 3.0 OS for $17/piece. If you buy 24 OS x $17=$408. Since they are OS, they will fit your child until they are potty trained. In addition to this, children who are cloth diapered are often potty trained sooner than their counterparts in disposable diapers. Sposies can wick so much moisture away that the baby doesn't even know they're wet. Each diaper comes with 2 inserts, a newborn insert and a insert that can hold 15oz. That's all you need. You don't need any covers or any additional inserts. $408 in cloth diapers is the equivalent to roughly 10 months worth of disposable diapers.

In terms of disposing of the poo, it's really simple to swish it in the toilet or use a diaper sprayer, easy peasy.

  • Rachel: yes, that helps! Thanks for the insight!

Cruchymama: Yeah, I was trying to figure out if getting NB prefolds and a few covers would be cost effective for those first 6 weeks when OS won't fit. I think it would be! and maybe they could double up as extra inserts if neccesary later on.
