update:where to buy a home.

Well Chris' company pretty much decided for us where we are going to buy our first home.

As of Dec 31st they are not allowing employees to drive their company trucks home. Chris has been w/ the company for 6yrs and this is the first time he is not allowed to drive his truck home. Prior to this year he was allowed to drive his truck for personal use. This year they made it where they can only drive it for work purposes (put a gps on them and everything).

So if we are to move to my hometown the nearest plant where he could park his truck is 35 miles one way, and that equals 1700miles a mth. Which is about $370 in gas.

If we move to the Tampa area, its 8 miles to the nearest plant one way. So its quite the difference.

his boss told him he can choose where he wants to be (current district, or tampa) since they aren't allowed to drive their trucks anymore after Dec 31st.  We decided the best thing to do is move to the coast. $370 might not seem like alot for a month but it really is. We are going to be adding a mtg to our bills.

So i guess we will be getting our beach house after all. YAY, im' pretty happy about this.

Re: update:where to buy a home.

  • Wow - that's quite a change in rules for a job. Driving the truck for personal use was a NICE perk. But, this change does mean you'll get a beach house... hip hip horray!

I really hope eveyrthing works out well, and you're able to find a house you like near Tampa.

  • Yes he had awesome benefits with his employer up until about 1.5yrs ago. They bought out another company and adopted alot of that companies policies, which meant not being able to drive his work truck. Chris did not even have a personal vehicle for about 2 yrs because he just drove his work truck everywhere. So that has been a big change for us.

I am very excited about our beach house. I am already thinking about what appliances I want, and beach decor. Woohoo!

We already "have" a house. My dad has a house started over there that he is going to finish and sell us. It's in a great area. I love love love the area that it's in. yay!
