I've had BOTB for a while now but we just aren't financially ready to have one yet. Unfortunately several (like 5) people around us are having kids and its just making it worse for me. Over the weekend I went to a few craft shows with my mom and we happened at a women who crotched the cutest little hats and booties. Now we're a little bit away from having a kid but I just couldn't resist so I bought a set. I just know DH will hang his head in shame so I didn't tell him I bought them and I snuck them into our guest bedroom. I'm also making some blankets and burp clothes for our friends and they are so darn cute so its like "one for them, one for us". I know exactly where I get this from too, my mother. She has 30+ blankets made for our future kids in blue, pink and green (just in case we don't know what we're having). haha
So thats my fun confession of the day, I'm hiding baby stuff from the DH.
Re: A little fun confession
I have an entire folder of baby-related sites bookedmarked on my computer. Everything from bedding to maternity clothes to breast feeding. I understand the finances, I think we'd have a baby by now if we didn't live almost in the ghetto (aka historic district) in an old money-pit of a house. We have some friends who are really struggling so I am kind of glad we don't have a child yet.
I don't consider the websites a bad thing - it's doing research. Which will save you headaches upon headaches once you're actually pregnant. The less research you have to do at the time, the more time you actually get to enjoy the pregnancy instead of succumbing to the drudgery of it.
As for the blankets and things, same idea. While I wouldn't go overboard with buying crib furniture or anything, 40 weeks can pass by awfully quick. Having some things you'd want to make by hand already made just gives you a little head start.
When my nephew was brand new, I bought this crib toy at the Zoo for my sister and I thought it was SOOO cute that I bought one for my future child. This was long before I realized that I wasn't even sure I EVER want children, but for some reason, I can't part with the giraffe thingy and it's still hanging in my closet never used. My H knows it's there. Did I mention my nephew turns 20 next week?
It doesn't hurt to have a few cute things saved up... though you'll probably have to fess up eventually 'cause he'll wonder where the things came from (or maybe he just won't notice a few extras added ot the pile??)
I could see myself doing this too, so I try to avoid kid/toy departments when I shop.

Does your mom get her nails done at Paragon? The woman that get's her nails done at the same time as my mom has a bunch of stuff for her daughter whenever she gets pregnant.
