The closest place to get our dog food is in Dayton (an hour away). We were going to get another puppy so the last few times we were up there I bought a few bags of the puppy and adult foods since our Koda is 13 mths old and we are going to start transitioning her to the adult. Anyways, plans for another puppy are on hold now (I'm just not feeling another puppy right now for various reasons, much to DH's disappointment) so I'm wondering if it would be okay to continue to feed Koda the puppy food. We have about 3 mths of the puppy food so is it okay to feed puppy food until the dog is like 17 months?
I asked this on the pets board and no one responded. The brand is Artemis so if all else fails anyone use this brand and need a couple of bags?
TIA!
Re: Puppy Food Question
I don't think it would hurt anything - especially since you have a larger breed - they mature more slowly and have a longer growing period, often not hitting adulthood until 20-24 months. If you're worried about it, you can do the transitioning over a longer period and just mix it with adult food.
I've never heard a siren or seen red lights go off over feeding an adult dog puppy food.
Half the time, I'd be glad if the mystery things my dog found to chew on were puppy kibble.
The Fluffy Cat says... "Boxes are the best toys ever invented!"
My friend continued to feed her dog puppy food and her dog gained like an extra 10 pounds, she was huge. So they vet told her to transition right away and increase activity. Her dog has lost the weight now. So my only recommendation would be to mix the two foods for a while, and also to increase your dogs activity.
Good luck!
