Finger Lakes Area Vacation Rentals?

Hey ladies, I'm jumping over from my home board: (Hudson Valley) and was doing some research for our summer vacation. I've been browsing VRBO.com and would like to rent a place on a lake for our family of 3 and two dogs. I prefer renting a house since I have a 15 month old. At first I was looking into the Adirondack/Lake George area and figured I'd take a look at the Finger Lakes too. Can anyone recommend at nice town to look into. I'm not much into crazy touristy things (aka Lake George Village). Just something calming and beautiful scenery where we are able to relax and spend time swimming/kayaking/family things etc. I've never been to the area (except in college once to Ithaca to see a football game) and haven't a clue as to the differences between the different lakes/and villages there. Thanks in advance.

Re: Finger Lakes Area Vacation Rentals?

  • The main Finger Lakes, Canandaigua, Seneca, Keuka and Cayuga are all beautiful.  There's not much difference in the lakes, other then the number of wineries around them, lol and their size.

    Other then swimming/kayaking, what else would you like to do?  Hiking, shopping, wine tours, movie theater, I'm trying to pin point a few towns to offer you.

    Check out these rental sites too;

  • We love to hike and wineries are nice too. We are kinda limited to some of our excursions since we will have a toddler in tow. (Fine dining, long winery tours etc --which i love btw.lol. will be hard to accomplish on this trip) But we do enjoy the outdoors, scenic road trips/state parks/hiking, river cruises etc. Thanks for the links.

  • Your welcome for the links.

    Check out Watkins Glen, at the south end of Seneca Lake.  There is a beautiful gorge/waterfalls in the state park there and the wineries are close by, in both directions (West & East around the lake).

    If you don't like what you see, get back to me and I'll give you some more info on other towns.

  • Super cute picture!
