Help me with a photography business name!?

After months and months of trying to come up with a photography business name, I think I may be closer to finding one!

You'd think, with all the millions upon millions of words floating around out there, that my brain would be able to come up with one or two words and pair them with 'photography', eh?

Nope, my brain had constipation of the brain-thesaurus.

I like the word 'Road' because I can refer to it as a metaphor for one's life. Everyone is on their own path, a journey, a road. So, that's why I've repeated it with the names below.

So, any here that stand out?

  • I like HoneyLight Photography - makes me think of awesome natural light that kind of casts a honey colored hue on a photo.

  • I chose Honey (and) Light too!
  • I voted for Lotus Road... Elysian is pretty but it's kind of a mouthful to say when paired with Road photography.  Honeylight Photography is pretty too.  That would've been my second choice.  :)
  • I like HoneyLight Photography...sounds so warm
  • I like Honey Light (or HoneyLight...or Honey/Light?).

My second favorite is Lotus Road - I love the meaning of Elysian Road, but I think that not enough people would be familiar with the meaning, and may have difficulty with pronunciation.

  • Ohhh thank you for the good feedback so far, definitely given me food for thought.

I am/was/sorta leaning towards Lotus Road. i have this image I was thinking of putting on the splash page (front page) of my website, of a long, pretty dirt road...with one lotus flower that has fallen upon it. So, you'd see the flower a little ahead of you on this road and then the road stretches out in front of you. The picture would have a vintage look to it, the colors muted and a little scratchy...

However...you are making me look at Honey & Light (or HoneyLight) again and pondering...

Ahhh, yes re Elysian Road. It looks pretty on paper but I actually had to check pronounciation myself (I was pronouncing it El-lis-ee-an) using the online Miriam Webster dictionary and was surprised to hear it pronounced El-ish-an....like you would pronounce 'collision'.

It lost some sparkle for me after I learnt how to pronounce it lol. So, yeah, I now realize that it will be one of those words that people ask how to spell/pronounce. I don't want that...I want a name that is straightforward in the sense of people will not have trouble spelling/pronouncing/googling it...whathaveyou. You and M&M made great points there.

  • wow, first I was going to vote Elysian Road, but after reading what others said, and especially after your decription of the Lotus Road image, that does seem nice.  I was going to vote for Elysian Road because I thought that was the one that made the most sense - as in a road that leads in Elysium.

What kind of photography is your focus?  Do many of your peers go with names like this or do they usually just use their own name (i.e. SirenSong Photography, insert your real name at SirenSong).  Ooh, I sort of like Siren Song Photography.

    Good luck!

  • Btw. I have come across the word Elysian several times / i.e. am familiar with it, and I have never heard it pronounced as rhyming exactly with collision.  I've always heard it as the "ly" being pronouned "lee" - long e sound.  Like

"Uh-lee-sian (like the "sian" in Asian)"

    or

    "I (short i sound)- lee-sian"

  • I like HoneyLight!

  • I really like Honey & Light Photography.  Makes me feel happy, blissful and youthful :)

Good luck and can't wait to see your photos!  Are you setting up a website and blog?

Also, if you haven't heard - Clickinmoms is a great website for tutorials and tips. The ladies are extremely helpful there. It's really addicting, so be warned!
