BR: Random (silly) ?

For those of you with babies that can sit un-assisted and pull themselves up to sit, how did they do it first? I was under the impression that they would pull themself to a sitting position from their stomach ..  .but Brooke seems to think that doing a sit-up would be the most efficient way to sit up.

She has had excellent head/neck control from very early on and has been able to tripod pretty well for awhile (MH thinks it's because she is so chubs-- her tummy holds her up), but this is new to me. She even makes a grunting noise when she lifts her head.. it's hilarious! So tell me. . . is this new to you or is this the next step towards sitting up by herself? My mom and MIL say they've never seen a baby do this before...

Re: BR: Random (silly) ?

  • Ben started sitting up wobbly at first around 5 1/2 months.  Then by about 6 1/2 months he was sitting up pretty strong.  He still can't pull himself up to a sitting position yet, but he's getting there.  He's now 7 1/2 months and standing more than wanting to sit.  Go figure.  He's not crawling yet, but he's a darn good roller.  LOL.  I think every baby is different and develops at different stages.  He's got more teeth than other kids his age (eight and counting), but some of his Gymboree friends have been crawling and have a ton more hair!  Go figure!

You'll find that all of a sudden she'll be sitting up stronger once you put her in that position.  I find blowing bubbles over them helps them focus on something else and helps strengthen their backs.

    HTH :)

She's a real cutie pie now.. and SIX months already!?!!   Isn't it crazy?!

  • To be honest, I can't even remember how my first learned how to sit up and my second only sits if I put her in that position and she will usually reach for something and topple over.

I think maybe my older DD learned to sit from laying on her side or stomach and pushing up?

That's a cute pic of Brooke!

  • Gah, Brooke is so cute!  Soon she'll have abs of steel, lol.

  • Marino used to do that sit up attempt. Will she pull up using your fingers from that position? Marino started doing that before sitting up and I was amazed when he could pull himself all the way up with my fingers. I think I even cried the first few times:) Marino actually still attempts that move above at every diaper change!

To answer your question, he started getting into a sit up position from sort of rolling over to his side.

  • I just had to add the Brooke is just soooooooooo darn cute!!! She looks like such a happy baby.

  • Thanks everyone :)

To answer some questions. . . she will sit up with a little assistance. She mainly lifts her head because she's nosy, I think. . . she wants to see what's going on around her.

& she is an incredibly happy baby! We are so blessed :)
